Baby Metal

Their latest album has some KILLER 9-string guitar work. Really fun band. Their hired-gun guitar players are very good.

EDIT: I tried but couldn't make it through that Poppy video. Eek. I like Baby Metal but not that.

At first I was like
But then I was like

Not sure I could sit through a whole album or concert but I dig their shtick.

Didn't one of the guitarist pass away a few years ago? And separately one of the singers stepped down. But yeah it is pure business.

I will always give something a listen and especially if it is metal, I'll wave the flag and support it since our music doesn't get the respect it deserves. I remember when they came out a few years ago and told my niece, who is into anime and all of that crap, that we finally can enjoy something together. LOL!

The music is awesomely insane. It is different, which is always cool in my book, but I can't picture those girls really liking hard rock or metal. At least it is fun and if people dig it, go for it. I'd rather hear this type of full onslaught metal with girls dancing around than some rapper named "Killz Erey 1" with songs that could have been written in 5 minutes on a keyboard. My daughter was into that crap for awhile and I was going to waterboard her while every Zeppelin album played in the background. Thankfully she is back to rock and roll with dabs of rap. LOL

Reaper,
Japenese girls that dress like that might actually like metal (don't know just wondering)...Japan is awesome like that.

It took me several listens before I started getting into it. I think Bloodmoney was the first song I liked, mostly because of the video. I Disagree is a cool video, too, with some very obvious Baby Metal influence.
I dunno what happened, I started liking the album. Cheesy, juvenile... Guilty pleasure? I listen to it most when I'm working out in the garage.

Of course Baby Metal is a business probably put together by managers or a talent company.
Does anyone really think a fucking band like that would come along organically?

Dude, don't tease me.

One of my Air Force buddies was stationed in Okinawa (know it is not Japan but close to there) and he said there was this metal band in the late 80s that played clubs there and their singer was a female. I guess they did Yngwie's "Rising Force" and would just kill it! He said (obviously) that he was in love with her. LOL! All of us on the forum would be I'm sure.

I would have loved to have been in that meeting. Guy gets the band to start playing and then from the doorway three hot Japanese girls in dresses dance in.

Yup. He fell from a balcony. Really-tragic, man.

The singer who stepped down was my favourite (the cutest). She actually plays guitar apparently. Her replacement was taken from my favourite idol group (heaps of bangin', creative EDM songs!), Morning Musume, which is part of the Hello! Project group (lots of bands in the family). I prefer that umbrella to the AKB one (AKB48 being the most-popular band therein) 'cause the output is generally more-creative and unpredictable, whereas the AKB stuff is meh and predictable, 'though always well-produced.

Been following them from the start. Love 'em.
I think Poppy took a lot from Baby Metal and applied it to her I Disagree album.
No doubt, mate. Baby Metal's overall production, performance (instruments as well as stage work) and arrangements are vastly-superior 'though IMHO. Oh, and the songs are a whole-lot better too IMHO.

No doubt. I see Poppy as this girl from Nashville that moved to CA to make it big, with an ongoing identity crisis, throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. Covid happened as she started to get some real life, not YouTube, traction. Doubt she'll get close to being the biggest thing in the country the way Baby Metal have.
That said, it's nice to understand the words. Hahaha

Be careful with those Asian "girls"...

You are right man, and these six-stringers are fooling themselves. As far as I'm concerned, that is just a tremolo bar underneath a skirt. Not everyone can own a hardtail.....

Have you seen them live? I hope to one day.

I have. Went to their show in Nashville with a Japanese co-worker and his wife/family. It was actually a lot of fun. They've got their own crowd of followers from 5 yrs old to 70+.
