Mr. Willy's post made me wonder - for those who utilize backing tracks, where do you get them? YouTube? wondering if I could download these and import into a recording app even as something as simple as Garageband to record over?

For me it depends. If the master tracks are out there I either google for them or youtube and convert them to mp3. If there's no masters to be found I'll take a guitar pro file, just the drums, and export it to MIDI, then use something like steven slate for the drums. Won't get me bass or vocals but good enough for me.

The backing track I used on that video is from an app on my iPhone called jam play. It's got several tracks in different genres and keys that you can experiment with. There are also lesson and chord charts, various things like that. It's very, very cool considering it's free. I don't use it a whole lot, but it's cool to just randomly pick a track and see what you can do over it off the cuff.

Epicland is a great app, but not AudioBus compatable.

Not that I'm lazy, but...

I've got a show in two weeks and we wont be able to rehearse before it.

Playing along with the discs works, BUT...

Have you guys ever seen any TOOL backing tracks?

I'll buy you a beer at the next show if you can save me the search time!
