Mix a JCM800 with an OD808 with the Peavey.
As mentioned a Triple Rec and the Maxon crush.

Framus Cobra with the matching Cobra cabinet clean boosted with an 808/OD9 fucking destroys. And like the4th said, no EMG's. It loves medium output humbuckers. This rig will crush.

The clips I've heard of the Cobra sound great. Is the general consensus on these still that they are extremely unreliable?

I never had any problems with mine. I sold it to my buddy like 4 years ago and he still has it without any problems. He's even toured with it. But mine doesn't speak for them all so :dunno:

I prefer Engl Blackmore over Fireball, so if you get a chance you should at least try it. I don't know how much it is these days but Lil Fokker could also be an option.

Any of the VHT/Fryette stuff slays for metal and almost all are that price used. A deliverance would be well under a grand and you are hard pressed to find a better sounding amp period. The Engl Blackmore is great too and in that range used. Either would be a totally different sound to what you have now.

One of my regrets is selling the Deliverance I had. Had both the D60/120 at the same time, decided to keep the 120.
Wished I had kept the 60 and sold the 120. All the low end anyone needs, with that killer articulation and gain that is unique to VHT/Fryette. I think both amps were around 8-900 at guitar center online.

I've always wanted one but my Sig X gets really, really close to the D60 so it would be too similar to have both. I just like the idea of a single channel amp and of course it's a Fryette so the feel is amazing.
