Hey,
This my first real post. I have been a member since Mar 04, 2013 and I am a guitar player. I have played in many all original bands over the past 35 years none real big but I have been rocking for a long time having fun. I mostly just lurk and read all the cool post and enjoy all the clips of like minded guitar folks. I joined in the first place because of my friend that told me about it and I immediately had G.A.S. and bought tons of shit from folks on here.
Friedman BE100, Cameron Modded Sovtek, CCV, Cameron Modded Marshall, Soldano Hotrod 100 and SLO, Bogner Helios, Ubershell and Shiva, Cornford MK50, Mcnaught DJ+, Suhr Modern, Vigier Bfoot, ESP Horizon and various pedal, pickups and Microphones.
Couple weeks ago I did what I think might be my first trade here and wonder now what the etiquette is when you trade amps with someone and they tell you theirs is in mint and condition and working perfectly and when you get it there's a tube rolling around in the head shell and all the power tubes are almost falling out and 2 of them had broken key-ways on their bases and after tubing it back up its cutting in and out loosing volume and one channel is stuck on permanently.
When I first turned on the amp I was blown away by how killer them amp sounded. This could be my new go to amp and after the amp got warmed up I could tell things were not right so I stopped and sent a message to the person I traded with and said hey there is a problem and the amp is not right and what does he want to do. He come back with do you want me to file an insurance claim was the box messed up. I said no the box was fine.
The box the amp came in looked just fine and while it was fairly well packed it was much bigger than it needed to be and you could feel it flopping around a little bit inside and you could hear something rolling around. The head was well wrapped up in plastic and then maybe cardboard and then another layer or 3 of bubble wrap then placed in a big box filled with peanuts and they was some slop so the amp could shift around a little.
I proceeded to trouble shoot a bit and had to re-tension the power tube sockets and put new tubes it and set the bias (one of the chassis crews was only hand tight ) and that seems to have fixed the loosing power issue. A couple days later I had time to fire it up and it did seem right again. That's when I found that the second channel could be heard through the other channels. I sent him another message and he came back with how do I know what you've done to the amp didn’t mess it up.
I told him I either want my money and the my amp back or for him to pay to have this one to be repaired. I think that is fair his amp isn’t as nice as he said it was even if it was when he boxed it. I traded a killer amp and a very good chunk of change for an amp that don’t work right.
Its not my fault this amp didn’t travel well, I didn’t pack it. How do I know the amp worked properly on his end.
Over all he was a cool before I received the amp and even paid for 2 day shipping which was real nice. A few messages went back and forth and he was being kind of helpful trying to help solve the problem. Now He's acting like I wanted my amp back before I even traded him because I asked him what he would expect if he didn't like the amp he traded for before we traded and we agreed that if we didn’t like the others amp that we’d sell it our selves. But I didn’t asked how he’d feel I sent him an amp that didn’t work properly when he got it. I can't sell this amp as mint because its not working perfectly.
I don’t think that he was trying to pass a bad amp off on me but the truth is the amp was not working properly from the get go. I can’t imagine the channel got stuck on in transit. I told him the minute I found out that something was wrong.
A real nice thing that has come out of this so far is I emailed the manufacture of the amp and he emailed back very quickly his direct number to talk to him after hours and gave me some Ideas and told me where I should take the amp locally should it end up needing it. He was very helpful and treated me like I bought amp straight from him. He is a great person and I’m happy I got to meet him on the phone. His support has been killer. Hopefully his idea about what’s wrong is dead on so I get to keep this amp.
My question is what would you guys expect in the same situation?
Has this happened to any of you?
Did it get resolved and how?
