Bands you got into way too late

Amorphis, although I’ve been a big fan for about 15 years, they were around long before

Dark Tranquillity
Katatonia
Iced Earth
Blind Guardian
Sentenced
The entire NWOBHM 🤫

I’m in my late 60s, I ‘discovered’ it in my early 60s. Obviously knew of it but didn’t get into it much. Stocked up on Maiden & Priest CDs then heard of Iced Earth. I think I found every CD. Larry tone! Great stuff!

All excellent music, both of you, this was the type of stuff I grew up with

I got into AIC around the release of there self titled album, which would be Layne's last. You know, i like modern AIC but it still doesn't compare to an album like Dirt.

I got into Lamb Of God a little late. First album I bought of theirs was Wrath, I dug it, but then I checked out there previous work and was blown away. Especially As The Palaces Burn and Ashes Of The Wake. I remember watching the vid for "laid to rest" when it was first released and thinking it was OK. Now it's one of my favorite LOG songs.

Oh, I got into Metallica around the load and reload albums, but that's because of my age. I didn't really start getting into music until about 13 or so. They were the first band I got into. When I finally heard MOP for the first time it really had a big impact on me... And all the other kids were listening to Korn and Limp Biskit. I never did get into the nu-metal thing.

Alice In Chains, I never knew the guitar tones were so awesome.

That song "Would" comes on the radio every day in my car and they made a nice use of quartal harmonies in that song. Has a haunting feeling, which I like.

I never knew Jar of Flies was an album they did not originally plan to release. I like a few songs on that album, but the video to "I Stay Away" is scary.

I just couldn’t get into any AIC after Dirt. Kind of bummed out. They went the way of Soundgarden. Start with two, full length bangers (not counting Ultra Mega OK) and then descend into the more polished mainstream. They would say it’s growth and I agree. Growth of the bank account.

I am on board with this. Lose the pearl jam and get some STP. I think @Smash will agree.

I was and still am a fan of the original STP. I liked their first 4 albums, but I lost interest after the 5th album came out. I love Dean and Robert Deleo's playing and tone.
