HRI was cool, but a lot of members got out of hand, and I think Gluke and Marsa had enough of it. Someone has to pay the servers fees for a forum, and when it gets goofy, they lose advertisers if they don't police it. That's why I quit advertising there.

The reason the TGP is so huge is because they attract some high end folks, builders pay fees to advertise, sellers pay fees to sell their stuff. Due to that it makes money. They're not going to listen to the latest whine about "_____________" and jeopardize their cash flow. It isn't free speech, 1st Amendment rights, etc. When you join you agree to certain rules. It's not a democracy. It's a benevolent dictatorship with rules and limits. When you break them, you get smacked. You break them again, you get banned.

I thought that was all well known and understood? Or am I mistaken?

Totally agree, but there is way more snowflake activity at TGP than there ever was at HRI, and a significant portion of what constitutes a ban-able offense seems rather subjective (imo) vs a clear violation, when analyzed.

At HRI, when there were those sort of disagreements, it was not like the sheer numbers of troll provocateurs that there are online-- nowadays, and they were told to F-Off, not report their butthurt to mods-- for a soothing ointment.
