So I bought a Rebel Yell over four months ago. I first put it my Lester and I really did not like it. I chalked that up to being so used to a different pup and thought I had to give it time.
The pup has always felt subdued. Sure, the output is there but there's always been a total lack of clarity and harmonic content. No overtones whatsoever nor does anything 'feel' fluid. Maybe it's because it's wax potted and I've never messed too much with potted pups before. I tried it in my Strat (I know RY is meant for a Lester) but the same feeling/problems are there.
I've played Nailbomb, VHII, Mules, Cold Sweat and Holy Divers in customer's guitars or my own and they all killed. I think I may just have a bad pup.
I've tried everything from Duncan, Lawrence, DiMarzio, WCR and I've never felt this way about a pickup.
Anyone else ever get a bad pup or have this problem?
