Looking for a on-stage bass preamp, expecting to see the posts with a Radial but maybe any alternative (with sound examples will be great)?

Sansamp PSA-1? You could probably score a nice deal on a used one.

Thanks man, but I'm searching for a pedal-boxed preamp, not rack. As far as i know PSA-1 is a rack preamp, or I'm wrong?

Sorry no sound samples, you can search them yourself.

I build my own tube preamps for bass , but if I was looking to buy one it would be either:

SOLID STATE
http://www.rmi.lu/products
BASSWITCH flagship or smaller preamp.

Budget SS
http://tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/index.html
a solid state sansamp, blond for bassman, vt bass for svt or oxford for orange.

TUBE
Verellen meatsmoke or sky hammer
http://www.verellenamplifiers.com/products.html

BUDGET TUBE
http://www.mycopedals.com
Myco pedal three or four tube preamp/overdrive. ( these are HV)

Here's the talk bass list:

Aguilar Tone Hammer and don't look back.

Unless you're looking for aq grindy SVt Sound, the tone hammer doesn't do this well, it's very pure and uncolored.

I used a SansAmp Bass Driver a long time a go. The one with 3 channels. I liked it.

No, you're right :)
I believe Tech21 has pedal preamps as well. In my experience, their stuff is similar sounding. I also have an old tri-OD. It also kick ass for bass.

I liked those Myco's but $350 is too rich for me. Can probably make do with a plug in.

I haven't used it solely as a preamp, but I love my VT Bass pedal to death! I use it with my G-K head and have had zero GAS for any bass gear since finding this combo!

DarkGlass B7K, get one NOW and be done with it.

I checked out some other of their pedals and they're pretty cool. The duality fuzz was nice and I dug the B3 and the vintage flavored overdrive too.

My bass player runs a Sansamp bass driver DI into an SWR and it sounds killer with his Rick

+1000. It's not cheap, but the thing is a monster and totally worth it imo. Tonally it is more modern than vintage, but it's actually very flexible tone wise because of the eq and various switches. It's very easy to dial in too. The drive on it on is awesome with a nice crunchy character, and it can be blended in much more naturally than other pedal/preamps I've experienced.

If you're on a budget the MXR M-80 is nice too. One of its coolest features is that it's two channels, so you can footswitch between clean and dirty. The eq isn't as flexible as the B7K, but it's not bad either. The drive is more saturated distortion than crunchy od, which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you like.

I use an Eden WTDI and I love it. Works great direct or into a power amp then to a bass cab. Its much smoother than your typical SVT ampeg bass growl sound.

Check out the Tech21 VT Bass DI and VT bass deluxe if you want the SVT sound.

Yup, the Tech 21 VT Bass is killer. People have used the regular VT Bass pedal as a stand alone preamp with good results. The new VT Bass DI has a 10 db boost specifically to use as a stand alone preamp. I'm actually going to be getting one again myself and using it into a Peavey 120 watt tube power amp.

The DARKGLASS B7K pedal preamp is amazing! Love it!!!!

Sadowsky FTW.

They are extremely rare, but there is the Pro Bass Rockman. If you ever laid your hands on one, you's probably love it. The Pro Bass includes compression and a 9 band graphic equalizer. A foot switchable 3 band equalizer can also be used to change the EQ during a performance. It has an onboard stereo chorus, overdrive, tape input, tuner output and headphone output.

Another vote here for the Sansamp stuff. I recently picked up a VT Rackmount preamp and its pretty awesome.
