Basswood sucks

Agreed, George. I have an Anderson Pro Am with a basswood body and it sounds fantastic with the band and at home recording. Every piece of wood is different and can sound different regardless of what you have.
Yep Chad, I don’t doubt that is killer. Tom knows what combos work. I have been playing my Ibanez stuff lately. Two RG570’s from the early 90’s and a new RG550 with maple fretboard. They all sound great. Even with JB’s in two of them. 😄

I don't play superstrats so I don't have to deal with basswood bodies very often, so idk

Good Enough for Edward = STFU Squids. 🦑

.
His tone was buns after he switched to basswood bodies.

why don't manufacturers make 1/2 & 1/2 bodies. Basswood on the thicker strings, alder on the lighter strings. and a maple cap. or vice versa for a different balance. that'd be cool. all kinds of possibilities here.
This is a terrible idea.

All 3 of my Pro Ams are basswood too.

Basswood FTW!

Tom falls into the scammy boutique builder category. Any builder that touts basswood as something revolutionary should be treated with extreme caution.

Don't pay a big dollar for guitars with a substandard species of wood used in them.

And why should anyone value your opinion in any way?

Did I say you have to?

So again, why should I value your opinion? You must be some sort of expert in the field of guitar building or tone or something right?

Still, when did I say that you should?

My personal experience is that the species does not matter nearly as much as the individual plank.

The best and the worst sounding guitars I've ever had were both ash. My basswood guitars have been either "okay" or "very nice", but they're not very "excitng" tbh.

I tend to uh, gravitate towards alder for some reason.

Wasn't Viv Campbell's Anderson also basswood? I think that was the best he sounded, with that Soldano rack

There are grades of basswood, just as there are grades of other woods. Just because something is black limba or mahogany doesn't mean it will sound better.

I don't have any basswood guitars at the moment, but I've owned a few and they played as nice as some of the other stuff I've had.

As far as tone, I don't think using blanket statements automatically makes you correct. There are plenty of people making good sounding music using basswood guitars.
