I'm taking the plunge to buy a Snorkler 50 to be my fun gain amp along side my recently added Bogner Helios JB45.

I need a good cabinet/speaker recommendation to bring out the best tone from this head. The seller of the head says that he likes greenback 20w (not 25's), but I also know that Bogner likes to match greenback 25's with G12H's (I have that combination in my Goldfinger 2x12 cabinet). Like most, I don't love the 70th anniversary G12H's (too harsh sounding) so I compensate via my guitar tone knobs & amp EQ when using that cabinet.

Many of Bogner's other 2x12 closed back cabinets feature a pair of Vintage 30's.

What do you guys think is the best 2x12 cabinet type & speakers? (I would like to stay with a Bogner cabinet so it matches the head - but shape & speakers are wide open).

I would check out Avatar speakers.

I have some AV75s in an open back 2x12 that sound absolutely massive.

Mixed a Fane M65 in there as well and that's a great sound as well.

I need to test in closed back again to tell you if I was into that or not with the AV75s.

I have also tried the AV60s and the 90s.

The AV75s are my favorite for my current setup overall.

I've seen Avatar cabinets used in a several YouTube amp demo videos, but know little about them.

People swear by Bogner cabinets and I've had great luck with them. I'm not saying I wouldn't consider an alternative, but my rig sure looks better with matching head/cabinet where possible. It's the speaker combinations that I am most concerned about. I'd love to try and get a 4x12 "similar" sound from the 2x12 cabinet. For instance, my prior Boogie Recto 2x12 cabinet would sound close to my Recto 4x12 cabinet at room volume levels.

Sorry, not Avatar cabinets, their speakers.

I use a Panama Pro series 2x12 and an older vertical Jet City 2x12.

My Panama with the AV75s stood up vertical thumps as hard as most 4x12s I have played.

Bogner OS 2x12, or if you want to save money and have better sound, a V-Boutique Euro 2x12 which is the exact same cab with Mesa spec Celestions which are superior to the Chinese ones Bogner has used for years.

I'd go for a bogner OS 2x12 and replace one of the v30s with a 1975 - 79 era Blackback G12H30 55hz or a Scumback equivalent.

I think that would be a killer combo. Jerry uses a mix of greenback and v30s (I think) and the 55hz h30 blackback is like a punchier and more aggressive Greenback...and the sensitivity of both speakers is 100db so they'd be a perfect mix (not that a GB and v30 can't work well either)

Love my Bogner OS.

One old V30 and one Anni in there, sounds fantastic. Those hating on Anni's, need to break them in. Once they smooth out, probably my favorite Celestion. My only dislike of the Bogner OS is the cane grill, just not a fan. Maybe one day I'll replace it. Fantastic cab.

Good to hear that the 70th Anniversary speakers improve with age/use.

Absolutely. Mine are actually the Hellatone branded Celestions from Avatar where they are broken in. I started liking those speakers when I had two Mojave 4x12's I bought from a Nashville touring guitarist, they'd been broken in and just sounded fantastic. Best sounding 4x12's I've ever heard. Since that point I've favored the Anni's or with a mix of them, pair great with a V30. Before that I was pretty much a Green Back guy.

The bogner os 2x12 is the best there is in my opinion. I have an original with a lead 80 and a v30 pair in an open back.

Keep in mind if you run Greenbacks......

Not shit talking on Greenbacks of course..... But keep in mind if you use a Greenback with say a V30 or a Redback..... The total sum wattage would be 50 watts as the Greenback is 25 watts and when you run series or parallel you get double the wattage of the lowest rated speaker in the mix no matter how many other watts the other speaker may have on in the mix.....

If you have a 50 watt combo....... With 212s and all Greenback or Greenback in the mix......

Keep in mind you will be pushing it to the red limit in a sense.

Really good reminder about the wattage calculation. Fortunately, I’m only playing at room volumes at home.
