DittoSaw this in Greensboro. Best rock concert I ever saw. I was a HUUUUGE QueensRyche fan then.
Checked out after Promised Land. La Torre is cool but I'm out.
I love Empire... but it's like comparing REM's Document to Out of Time.As much as I like OM and it deserves the praise it gets, Empire is 10x’s better in songwriting, production, tones, etc.
I agree without DeGarmo they lost the fireSaw them open in the round for Def Lepp.
Saw them headline Empire and play Mindcrime in its entirety on that tour. (Same tour as OP's video)
Saw them headline the same venue (palace of auburn hills) on Promised Land (and may have been the best show). They were EXTREMELY dialed in at that point.
Saw them later without DeGarmo. They slayed but were not the same. Kings X to QR to Dream Theater with a killer encore at Pine Knob. Best show w/o Chris.
Every other viewing went downhill. Love the band, like the band with Todd. It's not the same w/o DeGarmo and Rockenfeld. Fuck Tate, he was spitting on his bandmates live before a disastrous breakup.
100% they were an amazing guitar duoThese guitar players were criminally underrated. They wrote killer riffs, and just top-notch players.
Yea i know what you are getting at but to me OM wouldnt be OM if the tone, songwriting, production was any different than it is. It’s greater than the sum of all parts to me. Raw, organic and it’s not being perfect in all aspects adds to the theme of the album to me. If it was more studio refined it would take away from the story to me. Its all subjective but its fun to talk about it and see what others hear and get out of it.As much as I like OM and it deserves the praise it gets, Empire is 10x’s better in songwriting, production, tones, etc.
Seeing them open for Metallica on that tour was my first and only time seeing them live and looking back now (at the time I was actually glad), I wish I could have seen the entire set. Houston had iced-over that night so it took a little longer getting to the Coliseum but then after we parked, we noticed there were a few hundred people in line outside waiting to get in as HPD was patting everyone down.I saw them open for Metallica on the AJFA tour, during this time. They were alright. Not my thing at the time. They did well, but the crowd wanted Metallica and would not stop chanting for them.
Even though I was really young, like 11 or 12, I felt bad for them. But then lost that when Metallica got on the stage, with that lady justice set piece.
I remember really digging the drummers cymbal hardware. It was welded chain style. Cool at the time.
They had a good run.
