Geoff Tate was in Detroit tonight. My buddy called this afternoon with an extra ticket. This was off my radar as I just assumed he can’t sing like he used to. Was I ever wrong.

The started the show playing Operation Mindcrime in its entirety. What a brilliant piece of work. His band was tight. The sound was great and Geoff was sounding awesome. I really enjoyed the show. I think Mindcrime is the best album ever made in any genre. It’s just perfect.

He is playing here, probably will see him again......hope he has stopped spitting water all over the crowd, though.

We had seen him just last year at the Montclair Canyon Theater.

He sounded great and the band was really solid.

My wife couldn't believe how good he had sounded live since he sounded just like the records.

We would go and see him again if he was playing local to us.

Saw this show again this weekend.

Operation Mindcrime is a brilliant piece of music.

I was very young when Mindcrime was released, so it was one of those records I had to go back and discover. From the songwriting, performances, production value, guitar tones...I could go on and on...it's simply a nearly perfect hard rock record from every angle. Easily a top 20 of all time for me.

When I first heard this album, I got it from my boss at the bike shop. It had a scratch that rendered the last 2 songs unlistenable.

I still listened to it twice a day for at least a month.

Great, great album.

The new guy is pretty good too.

I caught Tate last year doing Mindcrime in its entirety and was glad I saw it. He’s a huge, huge vocal influence on me and my father and uncle raised me on Ryche from the moment I was in, shortly after the EP came out. I wrote Tate off before he was done in Ryche and things weren’t looking too good for him until he got these new guys in his band that are doing a killer job.

I think after Tate went and saw ToddRyche he realized what aspect of his voice fans wanted back because he started introducing some higher notes again and that was all I needed, just a little bit of effort into his performances. My only gripe from the show was his drummer playing V-Drums live, that’s an abomination, especially playing Scott Rockenfield parts.

He’s touring O:M III now and in typical Tate fashion, he’s chosen to shit on his past by saying the production on this new one blows away the original. Dude, I fucking love modelers, but there’s no way in fuck you’re telling me an album made 100% in the box is going to blow away *ANYTHING* recorded in a real studio in the 80’s using fucking dimed/modded Marshalls and big ass rooms. That dude is way too quick to discredit his past in order to prop up the present.
