Best Fender amp for a classic rock band?

Another Deluxe Reverb fan here...simply great amps. I have a '68 with a few minor mods and it just rips...no pedals necessary for a smoking classic rock lead tone (although it takes pedals well).
The reissue Vibroverb was a great amp as well.
The Tonemaster is one of the coolest amps ever IMO...wish that I'd kept mine. That said, its a bit much for most gigs...I pissed off quite a few sound men with that one.

I had a Twin for a couple years and that thing weight a friggin metric ton. Totally unpracticle for a gigging musician as it doesn't cover a lot of ground, and despite what others may say, sounds like garbage with an OD/Distortion pedal in front of it. A purely studio amp IMO.

A Deluxe would be my suggestion as well. Decent cleans, decent dirt and not going to break your back or the bank. If you are looking for the Fender type thing, this is a great choice. Also, the Bassman rocks as well, but is much more difficult to find in a combo.

Did you try the Rat? They do sound good.

That is a solid deal. Check to see which speaker it has. The older version has an Eminence speaker, the new has a Jensen C12k (if my memory is correct). I hear better things about the Jensen speaker.

Hey Tom! My recommendation...Rivera Jake. Hear me out. Awesome cleans, I mean fantastic, and marshally OD channel. I had a 50 watt combo, not too back breaking, came with Celestions, and scored for fairly cheap. Riveras are known for their Fender-y clean channel, I mean Paul R. Sr. worked there for years, designed "The Twin", and they pack in a damn good OD channel as well. Mine had a loop and reverb as well. The OD channel is plexi-ish, rather than JCM800 or later. Rivera also packs in a bunch of push-pull controls for extra versatility; the clean channel on the Jake has a push/pull that bumps the mids from more tweed-ish to more blackface-ish, for example.

Finally talked my buddy into getting a Fender combo and ditching his line6....but I know nothing about Fender amps but ai know his style and he plays a tele. Im gonna help him put together a pedalboard as well with a few decent pedals

So what Fender amp and what few pedals? I was thinking like an OCD and a Carbon Copy for starters...and a wah. Actually that's probably all he needs, and a tuner of course

When I think of classic rock.....I don't think about Fender. He needs a Marshall or Blackstar and a LP

I'm gonna be the odd guy out and say peavey classic 50 2x12 combo... they are super cheap, have a great clean and drive channel. I think the drive is a lot better then the fenders, and it take pedals really well...

you beat me to it - only better choice would be the 4x10 model - absolutely kills for classic rock!

I liked the 2x12 I had, for bigger shows he could throw a 2x12 extension cab, the 410 sounds killer too though.

I Know what Fender amps sound like for the most part. I've seen many shows with guitarists using fender amps, matter of fact I saw an Eagles tribute band just last night ...and they all used fender amps. I know his style and what he likes (players, groups, music)...I just dont know anything about all the different models. I've got the Marshally thing covered

I had a Super Reverb and a Bassman and while they sounded absolutely amazing in a room I could never deal with close micing the 10" speaker. Did NOT work for me at all. I really noticed a difference when recording. The 10" speaker did not compare to a good 12" for many reasons.

I'd recommend the Deluxe Reverb or an old Bassman or Bandmaster head with a 2x12 cabinet.
