I have a a bunch of monster cables. If I'm unable to exchange them at GC, I will make a big stink about it. With that said...I've only had 3 cable failures in the last decade... Two were my fault. Late last year, I cut a cable on something heavy and sharp, exchanged it at GC, played it at home and my guitar sounded dark and muffled. Changed out to an older Monster cable and sound was back. At that point I moved on. I ended up buying a 21 foot Van den Hul cable and was shocked how much better it sounded. Lava cable was having at big sale last Black Friday. When cables fail it usually happens at the solder connection to the jack. Take the cheap approach if you liked the cable. Cut the cable just before the existing jacks, and solder new ones on. Good to go!

I'm along with the "make your own" crowd, though I understand it's not for everyone. I prefer to have the ability to make custom length and custom connector cables (including which way a 90degree might face. I have issues.) Not sure it's that much cheaper than buying new, but I like knowing that if the cable starts crapping out (which doesn't happen often), I can go back and resolder the connector.
I like the Canare GS6, but have never heard anything bad about the Mogami or Belden stuff. I also use Canare stuff for XLR and speaker cabinet runs.

Anyone have trouble with the monster straight cable not fitting into the input on strats? I have one of the top of the line monsters and the jack is too fat to fit into my Strat input.

I have all monster cables but obviously will be making my own from here on out. They always took them and gave you a new one before, now I guess they can shove them up their asses

Same here as well. It is well worth it to learn how to solder and make some of your own. Not only will you get exactly what you want/need, you will save tons of cash. All these supplies cost me about $150 from Redco. Mogami with Neutrik connectors. If I bought all these cables from GC/Amazon, I'd be looking at spending well over twice the amount.

you should be buying for the quality, not the marketing and warrantee. When you have a +500% upcharge on your crap you can offer a lifetime warrantee.
! I did buy a Monster cable that I got brand new at a guitar show for $10 and used it for about 8 months of heavy gigging, rack rolling over it etc.. before it died. I gave it away to my buddy who got a brand new one at GC. He mostly plays in his house and I think that cable still works. $50 is pretty much my limit for any cable if I buy one pre-made. Got a Lava Cable about 2 years ago thats been holding up for gigging. So far so good.

Monster only does exchanges directly these days. I didn't have the receipt, and they gave me a one time exchange. I still went to Mogami, because I want to be able to exchange them at any GC, no questions asked.

This. Like 1/2 the price on a Mogami gold. Canare gs-6 is great cable. If you don't know how to solder, buy an iron and learn. Well worth it.jc986":3dxv9gqu said:

I have a few off the shelf cables but I have a bunch of bulk cable and connectors and have made a bunch. It's not necessarily a money saver though. Once you consider the cost of the tools, cable, connectors, heat shrink, braided jacket, etc. it may even cost more to start up. But you learn some things and can make exactly what you need and it will perform at least as well as anything you can buy. Plus, you end up with skills that allow you to fix/modify the store bought cables as well.
