I really like the epiphone elitist line, but most are 9lbs and up.

I love early mid 90's LP studios, some even came with ebony board. You could get it below $800.

If you can go a little more look for a Heritage H-150. I have seen them go for 1100.If you are handy and can tweak setups it can be a killer guitar

I picked up a 95 for $500 off CL.

There are plenty of great options out there but first you need to ask yourself do you want a single cut guitar or do you want a Gibson Les Paul??

I have been through a load of great LP style guitars but it wasn't until I got one with Gibson on the headstock that it filled that GAS hole in my life ... Don't have one now (just not my thing) but sometimes its having "the real thing" that you actually desire. Try and find an LP studio with an ebony board

May be crazy but I just picked up a PRS Bernie Marsden and it's a pretty damn good guitar.

I had an EC-1000 for a while. Looks like an LP, sorta, plays & sounds like a superstrat IMO. Great guitar for the money, except I think mine was somewhat a turd LOL :-D. I needed to adjust intonation every single time I changed strings... got fed up with that $h*t and flipped it.

Now I want one again haha! I just want to find one that has no issues ;)

the edwards are great but they weigh a ton,,id go for a used eclipse ...

I 2nd this I have a gold top Elitist and it is a monster made in Japan, a little hard to find but worth it.

Look for a used Gibson studio lite. If your after a les paul that weighs less, this is your best option imo. I've owned a few of them and still have one, and they are killer guitars. Sustain for days and it doesn't kill your shoulder or back. These can be had on the used market for under a grand no problem. These have the 60's style neck so your not fooling around with that damn baseball bat 50's neck.
