Has anyone tried both the Tone Freak Naked OD and the Buxom Boost? If so, which did you prefer?

I’ve tried both but not thru the same amp . I tried the Naked thru a Friedman SB and it’s really transparent with literally no compression at least to my ears , nothing like a TS type pedal . I use the Buxom with my Splawns and it has the characteristics of a TS pedal but can do so much more with its EQ , the boost can be subtle or absolutely scream bloody murder if you want it to . I prefer the the Buxom to to add saturation and some grit

I’m looking for a boost to go in front of my SLO. I’d actually like a little bit more compression, at least for the heavier stuff. I’m currently using an OCD and an EP Booster. Neither blow me away with the SLO. Didn’t like my TS-9 with it at all. I’d like the EP Booster more if it had more eq options, though. Loved both the OCD and EP with my Bassman. Sounds like the Buxom might be the ticket for what I’m looking for. The Cusack sounds intriguing, but I think I’m a bit weary of the TS sound at the moment.

What’s your address? ?

anyone know a source for buying a Tone Freaks Naked Overdrive? Pretty hard to find.

So far the Timmy is probably the best I've used in front of a dirty amp. Only thing is even with the bass cut maxed it still doesn't cut as much as a TS9 or 808 or it's a different frequency so the attack isn't quite as sharp/tight as a screamer.

Another great boost for a high gain amp is the Krank Krankshaft believe it or not. Another forum member and I put it head to head with a few others, TS, some Boss, BB preamp, Maxon 808, etc and for metal the Krank won. Pretty impressive actually.

Regarding the Timmy... I’ve had them all and find V1 with the “breadboard” to be the tightest sounding version. The V2 with the toggle on top is loose and flubby. IMO.

an EQ PEDAL - shape what you got

or

a one trick pony pedal (one knob) like a EP Booster or what I use, a T-Rex Luxury Drive

Get urself a nice parametric eq. It can do wonders... I have a rane pe 15 which I ve been using for years with my old mesa boogie quad and the mark 3.

That’s interesting to hear about the v1 Timmy being better. I used to own a v2 Timmy and didn’t like it for the reasons mentioned before. Have any of you guys compared a v1 Timmy to a Buxom Boost? If so, what did you think?

Right now my 8 favorites/keepers are my Klon Centaur, Landgraff Mo-D, Thorpy Gunshot, VFE Dragon, VFE Standout, Friedman Buxom Boost, Spaceman Mercury IV, and Lazy J Cruiser

The VFE Standout made me sell my Fortin 33, Grind and Horizon Precision drive. It smoked all of them and is the best thing I’ve tried for maximum tightness and attack, but I still find myself playing my others more often since they accel at other stuff.

I think a lot of guys would love the VFE Dragon. It’s terrific for adding saturation, growl, and good bottom end. I almost wanted to sell my buxom boost when I AB’ed them, but the Buxom Boost is capable of just a bit more bottom end, so it’s staying still, but I definitely prefer the dragon otherwise and it’s reaasonably priced too. If it was just a bit less compressed, I’d possibly even sell some of my other boost pedals

I find the best one is the one you're left with after all of the others you bought to try got flipped. Or, the one you bought and sold five times and finally learned to leave it on your board   These are the number Ones to boost your amp.

I've been using a Fulltone Fulldrive 3 out front and MXR M108S Ten Band EQ in the loop or out front lately.

I like to try a Airis Effects Savage Drive.

Also curious using a REVV G3 as a boost or overdrive. Obviously does the highgain stuff.

Cheap OD pedal that works great, and can be used as a good clean boost with the gain down and tone and level controls up is the BBE G Screamer, a Gus G signature OD pedal, low noise and goes great with my EVH 5150-3 50 watt head.
