Keef and Malcom Young .... it's all about the hooks.

Chuck Berry
Adam Jones
Billy Gibbons
Malcom Young
Edward Van Halen
John Sykes
Jimi Hendrix
Steve Cropper
Curtis Mayfield
James Hetfield
Keith Richards
Scotty Moore

I like alot of the previous mentions, but at the top of my list are Hetfield/Malcolm/EVH.

Hetfield and Dimebag were (are) dominant.
But there was also an obscure guy named Tony Iommi...

Hetfield & Ian tops my list..
But if we can keep including EVH then I would say Dimebag
I wanted to put Dimebag, but didn't because of his lead work.

The man was a riff machine

Yeah, venturing out into the lead/rhythm guys, I always thought Vito Bratta was a great rhythm player. Lots of inversions, arpeggiated chords, etc...
Funny.....I was just thinking of Vito during this thread. He was also a ONE MAN BAND.....
Great fills....riffs....leads....I love his playing!
I bought my 1st ADA MP-1 because of him.

Same here, I bought an ADA because of him. I had a Carvin FET400, Quadraverb and a BBE sonic maximizer.

I would have to say Nuno and Vito are up there with Van Halen. There is some much going on that most guitarist do not do. You really see how clever they are when you learn their songs.

Nile Rodgers. In a rock setting, at the minute, Nuno Bettencourt.

Hendrix
Uli
EVH
Townsend
SRV
DiMeola
Ty Tabor
Billy Gibbons
Greg Howe
Tommy Emanual
Joe Perry/Brad Whitford
Trower
Nile Rodgers
the guy in early Tower of Power

Hetfield's definitely up there.

Michael Akerfeldt is king in my book though (even though we're not supposed to be counting lead work and vocals). The stuff this guy writes blows my mind, and the fact that he can play it while doing vocals....
Yes.
