NMT for me.
Though I was 12 when Ozzmosis came out and had been playing guitar for a year, it blew my fucking mind. I never heard pick scrapes and pinch harmonics like that, I remember thinking “This sounds wild!” having no clue who Zakk Wylde was. I got that album right about then and it was my first real introduction to Ozzy in the same way Balance was my first real introduction to VH, despite hearing the older songs my entire life previously.
Once I got NMT though, that’s when Zakk went from “Perry Mason sounds cool” to “Zakk’s a big influence”. Love the riffs, tones and layers of guitar on there. Absolutely love his tone on that album so damn much. Someone needs to release the Symphonic preset of the SPX90 in pedal form.
The album I want to hear, though, is the album that was written and demo’d with Vai, before Ozzmosis came out. Vai said he was tuned to C for all of it and it’s the heaviest shit he’s ever done and had a blast with Ozzy writing it, but Epic thought he was too high profile to put next to Ozzy so it’s been sitting in a vault ever since. “My Little Man” is the only thing that made it out of those sessions.
