You're right, it's well known that a record deal = talent

I had never even heard of this band until today. However, just because someone has a record deal... plays at large festivals or does tours doesn't mean they are earning a living playing guitar. I know plenty that have and are doing all of those things but are typically broke as any of us and work jobs. Below is a list.

Funny story... AJ Dunning from The Verve Pipe told me that they basically earned like $25k each after they were done touring to support the Villains album (which had a #1 US Alt hit called "The Freshmen" - #5 overall). When I met him he was a manager at Guitar Center in Grand Rapids, MI.

A lot of those BCPT bits have been really bad. There are a lot of mediocre "pro" guitar players making a living.

One thing for sure, I bet none of us can play what the drummer plays in Nile. He has sick foot speed and blast beats between the hands and feet. Even if it is triggered he's still moving.

My favourite part of the video is where he says " ahh I think that's what I did there" classic. Let's be honest, just about anything you play tuned that low is going to sound like shit. That was sloppy though and really not well thought out from a phrasing perspective. I bet someone like Becker could kill it in standard tuning though!

Horrible video, these guys are much better than that. Their tone is dogshit in my opinion but they can play their guitars.

I wouldn't say I have "kill chops" but I am just some guy in my bedroom not a guy who earns his living playing guitar, has a record deal and tours the world. If I was and I played like the guy in the Guitar World video I would be ashamed to leave my house. So I don't leave my house and here is me playing:
