Yes I know. A 2 x 12 is not going to sound as full as a 4 x 12 cab. I have the EVH 5150III Stealth. I purchased an EVH 2 X 12 cab because I have the 5150III 2 x 12 combo and that amp sounds huge. Thinking the way I do I took for granted that perhaps the 2 x 12 EVH cab would sound huge with my stealth head correct ? Not so much. I was completely deflated when I hooked everything up and played through it. I tried everything I could to get this thing to sound good and I couldn't get it done. It sounded very thin and harsh no matter what I did. I took the back panel off to see if there was something wired wrong or loose and couldn't find nothing wrong. I hooked the stealth head back up to my Mesa 4 X 12 and the amp sounded huge like it should. I have played through a lot of gear and I am sure I may have gotten a dud or something. I even called my brother over and asked him if the 2 x 12 sounded broken. He said I was just used to playing through 4 X 12 cabs. I told him I expected it to be a difference but not that much. I hooked up my EVH 2 X 12 combo to the EVH 2 x 12 and it sounded just as thin and crappy. I read all the reviews on the cab and couldn't find a bad review on the EVH 2 X 12. I am returning the cab to say the least. Has any had this experience with the EVH 2 X 12 Cab ? I was thinking about getting the EVH 4 X 12 and trying that. I am not to sure about it now.

Speakers might need breaking in. What volumes were you playing at?

Anything from bedroom level to just below gig level. Not loud that's for sure.

The obvious answer is that you have G12M greenbacks in the combo, and H30s in the cab. Different sounding speakers.. Find yourself a greenback cab.

+1

this does not help matters at all.

Switch speakers from combo to cab and see what that does ?

yeah the H30 are pretty horrible (really bright) ...... get some creambacks for it

I have read the complaints about the EVH 2x12 also. I own one and it definetly sounded better after the speakers got worn in but not drastically different. I scored an EVH 4x12 from GC for $399 and it sounds so much better that I always gig with it. I play my 5153 mini at home through a Mesa 2x12 and I much prefer the Mesa to the EVH.

Why EVH had to put different speakers in all these cabs is beyond me. Its silly in my book. Anyway, I agree with sending it back. Stick to the mesa or the 4x12 that you prefer. You are not the first disenchanted EVH 2x12 owner. I think I keep mine just bc I hate when amps and cabs dont match from an aesthetic standpoint. Thats silly too come to think of it.

I have and gig with the EVH 50 watter and EVH 2x12 cab. IMO its sounds great, I guess I'd change my mind if I had the EVH 4x12 to try, but since I got the head and the cab together, I've never tried a different cab.

how does the carvin legacy 2x12 with V30's sound with these amps?

My V30 cabs have been OK with the 2 5153s I've had. But I recommend a Greenback type speaker...G12M, C, scumbacks, WGS Green Beret/Reaper, EVH(obviously) and even old school 80s G12T75s. G12 65s also but hard to find. GBs and related sound awesome with this amp.

Have used and gigged with 4x12 cabs my entire playing life. I grabbed the EVH 50w and two of the 2x12 cabs a while back and didn't care for the cabs at all. They were too boxy and raspy sounding for my tastes compared to any of my 4x12s. I'm not saying they're bad sounding cabs. I gave them a few months and they just weren't for me in the end.

Recently grabbed a Stealth head and matching 4x12 cab and right out of the gate it was a completely different story. Really enjoying that rig.

This is one of the best speaker demos I have heard.

If you are going to change the speakers I recommend you a wgs veteran 30 and et 65 mix. I was using a jet city cab with those 2 and it sounded punchy with a ton of lowend and clarity

I may have to try that mix...the EVH cab has potential, but it's a little directional. Been meaning to add batting and seal it up.

I have a 4X12 with V30/ET65 X pattern... Sounds great with my Marshall.

Yes the 2x12 cab sucks. Get the 4x12 or change the speakers out in the 2x12.
