BKPs are all about clarity
they are very in-your-face sounding, specially the painkiller and the aftermath, which sits between the painkiller and the holy diver
never buy them if you want an overcompressed tone, like the duncan distortion
the gibson 500t and specially the PRS Tremonti are good alternatives for the sh-6, but about as self-saturated as the sh-6
those pickups can be more forgiving, but they just don't clean up like a BKP
right now I have a custom shop duncan el diablo (22k, alnico 2) in a PRS and it's voiced somewhere between the nailbomb and the warpig, but it's no near as clear as any BKP and it's a pain in the ass to get a "clean" tone from it
and that pickup is still a lot less harsh than the sh-6
I got much better cleans from the aftermath, although it has 3 oversized ceramic magnets
