Bogner Ecstasy- maybe the best amp of all time

My XTC Classic sounded great for low tuned modern metal tones. I was using a boost, but still. And I can't believe this thread actually turned into a discussion about amps.

When was the last time you played one? A post 2004 or an older one with the factory modded red channel has gain/grind for days.

I'm not an Ecstasy expert, but I'm kinda with SHAWN on this one. I would consider the Ecstasy somewhat of a "vintage voiced" amp with more gain and an Uberschall a "modern voiced" amp.

The older ones were more vintage... I played Scottosan's, two that BrentSP had, and AlltheWayto11's Ecstasys. I liked em, but they didn't have enough gain on the lead channel. Bought mine for my 'classic rock' band, thought it might be kinda cool to have something different to check out.

I was really surprised when I got mine - the red channel on the post 2004s has a lot more gain and a lot more high end. Is an Uber a more modern sounding amp? Sure. But the newer XTC's can cover a lot of ground, and sound very modern to my ears if you dial them in for that. If I didn't have several gigs this week and weekend I'd do a clip real fast, I think you'd be surprised too.

Just my opinion. :)

Im really digging my classic and has plenty of gain for heavier stuff. I actually like the classics over the 101b by far. I would consider the Bogner to be a mix between classic and modern leaning more classic. I agree with Thump that the Uber is definately more modern.

xtc does not equal modern tones

The xtc can do some modern tones but its not where they excel compared to an uberschall, diezel etc. I have a 2004 xtc.

Also I agree an old 4 hole Marshall can do about just as much with a good pedal. Clean, crunch and screaming high gain leads with the right guitar/pedals/player.

It's good that the old douchebag breaks in occasionally. Kind of lets the new people see who it is that gets talked about sometimes. Kind of like having a history lesson pop by once or twice a year.

Point taken, my first lesson in history i have heard the references to Carl but finally get to witness the stupidity first hand

Use pedals and I can take a Twin or any reasonable sounding clean amp and get clean/crunch/screaming high gain leads. Player doesn't matter in that scenario. I've owned a LOT of amps, and pedals just don't feel the same to me as tubes. And yes, I've owned several Marshalls... been there, done that, got the T-shirt. :)

Well I'm talking about an overdrive pedal or boost into an overdriven amp which reacts way differently than a distortion pedal into a clean amp. With an already overdriven amp the player factors in by the way he controls the volume and pick attack to get good sounding cleans. A boosted tube amp isn't going to feel the same as running straight into an amp but alot of times it can sound just as good or better.

I own several Marshalls and nobody ever gave me a t-shirt.

I hear you on the tone, but yeah, I don't like the feel of a boosted amp as much and it's too easy IMHO to get a harsh tone. I had an original TS9 and ran that with a '78 Marshall 50 watt and they just sang together. For the 'one channel' thing, I have a trainwreck clone that beats the pants off of any marshall for the clean/crunch trick though... no pedals required. I like the way you can 'step up' the xtc gainwise though by turning each boost on each channel... and seperate EQs for the clean and blue/red channels help a lot too. It's all good.
