Get the amp. In 10+ years the amp will still be a classic and serviceable by any decent tech. In 10 years the AxeFX will be antiquated and almost impossible to fix

are you talking from actual experience? your tone suggests not.

101B hands down! And since the axe fx is basically a computer, my tone suggests that you will NOT get 10 years out of it.

Allow me to step in. *dons flame suit*

10 years wouldn't be a big deal IMHO for one of these to still be around - the build quality is awesome, and I see AX2SYS amps still around... 13 years after Line6 built em. I don't think it would be out of the question for a Fractal to be around in 10 years.

Here's the question - are you looking for an INVESTMENT or something to get the most out of now?

Investment - get the amp. it will hold it's value if you buy used.

To get the most out of - Fractal. Has fx, plenty of amp emulations, and it sounds great. I dig mine.

Just my opinion, you toob heads don't get too bent out of shape. And for the record, I own both pieces of gear, so I have no axes (lol) to grind either way.

Pete

well Ill get the 101b and wait on the axe fx till the software evens out etc...Sounds awesome,Im just sick of the new amp day every month .I cant find anything I like till I blow 2000.00 like my Uberschall now I want the 101b.

Software is good, but I would have the amp as well. Just depends on what your needs are. I got rid of my AXE FX, but if I had to go on tour and haul/pay for hauling the AXE FX would be fine - unless I'm just insanely wealthy - then back to the amps.

Get the AXE down the road, try it through 101B, use it for fx even if you don't like them sims.

What is it with all the XTC vs axefx threads lately?????

I gues it depends on how much of a tube fan you are. I have yet to hear an axe-fx clip that has the cool tube breakup & warmness of the 101b.

No shit. I'm afraid to leave mine in the same room, I'll find knobs missing off the fractal and busted EL34s in the back of the XTC!

Could be because the used Bogner's are showing up on e-bay used for close to the same price? That would be my guess.....

I was talking about the guys un-loading them for axes, those threads.

HAve not been following lately but about 3 months ago XTCs were going for $2300 at TGP.

sounds like you think there is bugs in the Axe software. While some minor things may pop up for each new firmware, they usually are very minor and the company is really quick to fix them, like crazy quick. So I wouldn't put buggy software as a negative against the axe.

really, it depends on what you want to do. . Axe fx sounds great, will be around for quite a bit, it is open, so they continue to improve and add amps and cabs, its like the gift that keeps on giving. versatility I give the nod to the axe. but if you want just a simple plug in play, couple channel amp, then you may prefer the xtc

can't really say which is best for you, both are killer

Do whatever works for you man

FWIW - I just sold my Ecstasy Classic after Jason 86_2342345234 showed up at my house with his AxeFx and had the Ecstasy tone and feel nailed in nearly every way in under 10 minutes....then moved on to 40+ other amps...My Aiken Intruder stays - but the Bogner is in the rear view mirror, the AxeFx has those tones covered. Thats the second Ecstasy I've owned as well.

Without throwing another member under the bus, a p.m. I recieved from him today said he was thinking of selling both a Cornford and an Elmwood 20 minutes after firing up his new AxeFx for the first time. just sayin.....

Keep a tube amp around, get an AxeFx - its just another flavor, not something that cures any diseases (other than GAS ;))

Get the XTC.

I am not discounting opinions on the AXE as an amp SIM, but I have yet (and I have heard this thing on 4 separate occasions) mimic the amp it was being compared to in a room through the same speaker cabinet.

If you never owned tube amps, you would totally be enamored with ALL of what the axe offers.

If you owned some tube amps you will LOVE the effects, and appreciate what its trying to accomplish with the amp and cab sims.

Get the bogner!

That said, I'll look to buy an AXE eventually but I am waiting for the prices to fall. With memory so cheap, and parts getting cheaper maybe they will break in price.

I think some of you guys are right, if only I had a tube amp to compare to my Axe-FX I might be able to be more discerning like many of you are.

I totally SUCK at programming any kind of preamp. JMP-1, Hafler triple giant, Piranha , Prophecy's, POD, are all preamps I've owned in the past, and I can get a few decent tones of them, but I get lost in the pre, post, and whatever other EQ's, and the different aspects of the FX etc. I'm sure the Axe-FX is a great preamp but there's a reason I've got an XTC on the way, It's about as complex as my simple mind can handle!!!
