Bogner xtc 101b or axe fx

Get the XTC, then wait and get an Axe-Fx Ultra. OR, let's see if any other companies step up to the plate in the next year and match the Axe-Fx for cheaper. I can easily see it happening. What cool piece of gear hasn't been copied?

Snobbery aside, the Bogner is the better move.

Resale on anything software-based is nill, since the hardware itself is only a few pennies, and the software is always getting one-upped by a newer version or a competitor.

No opinion on this other than the "in 10 years" concept around here is freakin' hilarious.
How many folks have their amps past 6 month? :)

I've had the same amp for like 5 years, and I think the 10 years concept isn't crazy at all, unless you have money. Then, in that case, what does it matter? :D

Lets see I've sold lately...amps that I had for 11, 7, 6, 5, 16 years...

4 years with Uberschall. For the first time thinking of letting it to finance a SLO.
3 years with Herbert. I like it as much or better than the first day I've got it.

10 years fly by faster than you would imagine.

No, but legend has it that a famous guitarist once owned it. But you know how that goes.

Get the XTC.

I am not discounting opinions on the AXE as an amp SIM, but I have yet (and I have heard this thing on 4 separate occasions) mimic the amp it was being compared to in a room through the same speaker cabinet.
.

Pretty much my experience as well. AXE sounded great until you turned around and plugged into an amp. Did this at an unnamed music store with several different people. But depending on what your needs are, and your taste, it might be perfect. Some guys dig Marshall, others Bogners, or Diezels or the AXE FX. Nothing wrong with any of them if it is your tone. (Though we all know real men play SLOs!  )

What is it with all the XTC vs axefx threads lately?????

Could be because the used Bogner's are showing up on e-bay used for close to the same price? That would be my guess.....

I was talking about the guys un-loading them for axes, those threads.

HAve not been following lately but about 3 months ago XTCs were going for $2300 at TGP.

I think somewhere (sorry cant find the post right now) someone was saying they could get a very good bogner sound out of the amp sim in thier axe fx so that might also be why..
I hadnt heard of software issues with the fractal any posts pointing to that?

edit:
see * velcro-fly * post on this thread as well. same idea that I rad elseware (maybe another thread that had another post by * velcro-fly * :D )

Do you think you will have the Axe FX and be using in in the same capacity in 10 years?

can firmware or software be upgraded with the unit as is? if so then it extends its longevity a bit would be my guess

I certainly hope not. If chips have not gotten even faster, smaller,etc...in the next few years I'd be surprised.
As what I'd using down the line...who knows, whatever gets the job done, consistently.

All I know I still dig my old amps, I still dig THD stuff, and I used the Axe for over 100 shows and did a LOT with it on this...

Yes, it was at 5.03 or something when I got mine a year ago, now it's at 7.06

There are so many argument's back & forth regarding "real" amps vs. "modeler's" , it actually get's pretty boring reading people's opinions in defense of either one, especially when "GAS" opinion's on gear pages such as Rig-Talk seem to change daily if not sooner, depending on a poster's "GAS" ideal's of the moment......... ;)

For recording, practicing with headphones, "Bedroom Jamming or Youtube Posting", ;) casino type gig's, and many other, "Modern Day" playing situation's, I personally believe that the "Sounds-Just-Like" technology, i.e. "Digital" definitely has it's place. However, until a "Model" sound's like being "In the Room" with a "Real" amplifier I'll alway's say:

Buy the Bogner! :D

depends what you're after

are you gigging?
mic'ing up at every gig?
travelling on the road?
do you like to tweak to get your tones?

the axe-fx is great coz you can send a consistent signal to the FOH every night
you also can't crank a tube amp at most gigs these days so the mic'd tone to FOH isn't optimal

If you're just wanking in a bedroom, then you very well might prefer the sound of a head in the room

I sold my uberschall for my axe-fx... very glad i did
i still have an engl, but it doesn't get played as much these days

Well, I'm not "wanking in the bedroom", but I think using an amp, and a Palmer is better than mics, and very consistent - and way better than the AXE for live use. I would say the exact opposite, if you are wanking in the bedroom, get the Axe, it really doesn't matter.

I think you all miss my point. How many of you have amps that are 10 years old? How many have computer based amp simulation rack gear that is 10 years old? How many places can you take the amp for service? How many places can you take the computer based stuff if something fries like and EEPROM or ASIC?
