I'm actually pretty interested in trying the HRG. I'm not a Simul fan, and the odds of a Coli RI are about as good as Mustaine truly forgiving Hetfield so...

Also like with cars, it's always a good idea to wait till the second model year comes out so they can work out the bugs. (DRG+ *cough*).

That said as much as I'd like to have the experience, in the back of my head is the voice reminding me that C+ just aren't very good in a live band so guess we'll see if I have a couple drinks and hit *buy* or not!

I’m curious to try it even with a KRG. The mark III top end can be a bit much at times.

No Simul.
But wasn't revealed that the new 2C wasn't hard wired for Triode on the Class A Tubes?? It's not the same.
No, once people got the amps in front of them it was confirmed the SimulClass reissues are Triode on the Class A Tubes. The guy saying it was Pentode made an assumption based on a picture of the circuit board and the wattage numbers they advertised and included it in one of the original technical rundowns and it spread around.

This HRG would be wired pentode on all the tubes most likely.

The only model is a 100 watt head? I could really go for a 50 watt combo.
The H in HRG stands for Hundred watt. But it is switchable to 60w as well. The normal DRG is also switchable between 75-watts to 25-watts. Their S is their 60watt amp, though I'm not sure if they would really reissue the "lower end" model.

Is there a TLDR of all the different versions of this amp?

Like simulclass vs not, and pentode vs triode. Not sure I fully understand the tonal difference between these options or which are the famous/popular ones.

Alright the HRG RI is OTW!

@frontline205 heads up if you want to come try it. I also know a local guy with a JP2C that he's gonna let me borrow to reamp against.
Awesome!! Can’t wait to hear your reaction!!

It's really about the feels & the headroom. Tonally, according to the microphone, they all sound the same- or as close as you can expect in amp to amp differences.

In a nutshell the 60, 100 and 180W versions are all Class A/B Pentode which is fast and aggressive.

The Simul versions of the IIB, IIC+ and III (pre-green) have the Class A tubes wired in Triode which is softer & slower. It smooths the feels out and makes the attack more greasy. IMO the blending of Simul also introduces a touch of mud from the blend which adds to the smoothness.

The internet values the Simul amps the most, however I find players are generally split on personal preference. I'm in the A/B pentode camp which is why I passed on the DRG and jumped on the HRG. (...and because a KRG is very unlikely!)

will you please make a new thread when your video is out? tough to keep track of all the mesa threads haha

Unfortunately life and 80 degree Michigan weather in October has restricted me from spending much time with my HRG RI!!

First impressions are I’d take it any day over my DRG RI and maybe, big maybe over the C++ RI!!!!

Hopefully Mesa will release a HRG++ RI🤘😛🎸

You know, these reissues sound like they have more prominent upper mid attack so I think one would work well in a band with the right cab. Also, Metallica never had an any problem cutting through with a iic+ so maybe you should try some of their live settings?? I know during the Black Album tour Hetfield used that M shape on the GEQ

I think the iic+ is fine in a live setting with the right settings, worked for Hetfield. You gotta remember he had his 240 and 2200 sliders up really high on the black album tour and because his amps were ++ modified he'd run the treble at 5 or even lower, this prevented the gain from getting too smooth and added clarity. The GEQ was in a M shape instead of the typical V. Speakers are also very important of course.
