They must've deleted a bunch of posts here because early last year there were TONs of threads singing the praises of this amp.

I haven't done any searching, but yeah, there were TONS of threads on this, TONs of great reviews. Hmmm... maybe they got lost in the transition to the new server or something... :dunno:

Yes I’m a big katana lover myself.

The Katana is ok. Really good for the money. There’s a harshness in the tone that can be grating after a bit. Just gotta watch the top end settings. Here’s a clip of mine:

Congrats!!! If it makes you happy, that's all that matters....period!

Now that said, and I'll try not to offend anyone, but I played the 100 watt in a shop here last month and thought it was the most god awful thing ever. Tone-wise it sounded so thin, fake, weak, and processed. I'm sure through a decent cab it would have sounded better, but still not my thing. I really feel the 20 watt PV Vypr something or other I bought a few years ago when I was beating back and forth across the country was better, and it really wasn't that great either.

I know these are cheap, and they're pretty cool for what they are, but I couldn't be happy with one after owning the amps I've owned. All of my blabber here is comparing against some pretty epic tube amps so it's definitely not apples to apples and a bit unfair really. But again, I think the peavey and the line 6 amps I've messed with in shops sounded much better.

Ok, the Katana lovers can let me have it :codeak:

when I got mine I tried it in the shop first and pretty much thought the same thing as you..but I saw enough potential in it to get it anyway and now I love it. Once I had plugged into a computer and reset it it came to life. My 5153 has barely been tuned on since I got the Kat over 12mths ago

I liked mine for the brief time I had it. I really needed it to sound good from the direct out and it just didn't so off it went. I tried with the AMT-CAB and AMT Pangea as well but to no avail.
