I had Dave mod my Marshall 4 hole 50 watter and asked him to make me a "Van Halen tone generator".....and, DAMN....if he didn't deliver in spades! I'm super stoked! I've been dying to nail this tone since I was 14 yrs old...

Every clip of a David Bray modded Marshall that I've heard sounds nothing short of brown sound goodness :)

He really has decoded that "early Ed tone" formula... I can only imagine how good the 4550 sounds.

Awesome job. I WILL learn to play that song before I die. Lol. What guitar were u playing through? Any effects? Does the amp have MV and loop now?

Wow that was awesome. I started to think it was really Ed playing. Sheesh.

Thanks! That was my homemade "Frankie"... the only effects on that one was an MXR Phase 90 on the solos, a faint touch of slapback echo from a Belle Epoch and reverb ala Reaper's plate plug-in. The amp does have an EXCELLENT PPIMV, but no loop. I could've gotten the loop, but I tend to use my effects in front of the amp anyway, so it would've been kinda pointless for me.

 Thank you!!! That's high praise indeed!!!!

That was awesome

I've always wondered why Bray's amps are rarely mentioned here. They always sound great to me...

Because they are too bright, brash and not enough bottom end and low mids for us wanna be rockstars that play by ourselves without a band in our basement.  IDK

That sounds great!

Sounds killer, how loud was that recorded and with what mics etc...thanks, really great. I saw that "Fan Halen" tribute band thing on TV this weekend or last and you play better than that guy and tone is better too.

Thanks... I've never been impressed with Derek in FH. I would love to have his gig though!

That was recorded about 1am with the MV at about a typical television volume. It was just a single SM57 off-axis on one spkr in my 4x12...then straight into Reaper with a Scarlett USB audio interface.

Nice for sure especially at that volume for recording. Would love to hear that amp wicked up a bit and recorded. Your playing is far better than Derek's, if I was super critical a few timing issues but really minor and you captured the swagger of that tune. Well done. Best VH guitar tune IMO

Great tone!! Just one note on the playing. The timing was a bit rushed and it didn't swing. I couldn't have done any better but just giving some feedback.

Yeah that is the tone for that, needs that high end sheen that a lot of wanabe amps are missing.
