I haven't broken a string since the early 1990s. I was too poor to change strings on a regular basis back then, so I played them until they snapped.

When i quit using GHS Boomers !
They sound good but i constantly break stings with them no matter what gauge i use .

rarely maybe fear of breaking a string,,, it scares me lol

I have a small scar on the knuckle of my picking hand where a broken string got nasty with me.

I have a few friends who still break strings all the time. Myself, it's been a few years, which I attribute to the strings getting better and have better guitars than I did in the past.

I break strings only when I have had them on the guitars for an extended period of time. I only use Floyds at this point.

Me too. I've only only broke a low E at band practice 7-8 years ago and a .010 tuned up to G for Nashville tuning around the same time.

Maybe because we're all tuning 1/2 or whole step down and using 11's and 12's instead of 9's at 440?

I play hard but haven't broken a string in years. I don't understand how it happens so often to some people. I play Daddario 11s, maybe that has something to do with it.

I rarely break them also. And I leave strings on for months and months :D

The last times I broke one were on Tune-O-Matic bridges. My Floyd guitars never break.

I play 12's (only cause I break strings) but this thread inspired me to look at the bridge on a few of my guitars, and sure enough, the tiniest of grooves in them. Sharp as all get out.
Polished them all up. So we'll see how that goes. Obvious maintenance issue. And here I thought I took good care of my stuff.

haven't broken a string in a loooong time and when it has happened it's been few and far between when compared to my earlier days. I figure it's because I change them more frequently than when I was younger. Also really like using fast fret or the spray stuff...not sure if it really helps with longevity tho

It stopped after I heard a live recording of my band. I dug in so hard that I could hear the ringing chord go out of tune, then become in tune. I was way too aggressive with my picking hand. Broke a few few strings. After that, nothing.

I've noticed that for a long time. Drives me mad.

This. For me that was around 1987.

I've never broken a string in almost 20 years of playing.

Quoting my own post for epic update... I broke my first string ever while playing tonight.    High E string on the Cabronita tele. I attribute it to the locking tuners I installed since they clamp down pretty hard on the string with that thumb screw.. Either way, the streak is over. Somewhere around 22 years, it's just wild that I went that long! And for at least half of those years I was playing either aggressive rock/metal stuff or doing tons of full step to step and half bends.

LOL Congrats man; you're no longer a virgin.

Welcome to the club.

I haven't broke a string in a looooong time! I think I do strum pretty hard though, so I guess strings are just better now.

I think the technology is better now.
I play just as hard and haven’t broken a string in a decade.
