I just went to the site and read the EVH Frankenstrat Humbucker review. It may be one of the worst and most mis-informed reviews that I've ever read. A couple comments from the "review":

The EVH Frankenstein pickup is designed to the exact specifications that were in Eddie Van Halen’s original Frankenstrat
The pickup in the original was Gibson PAF out of a 335...show me one that measures 14K.

no matter what I played or played it through, I still sounded like EVH. It still captures the brown sound, regardless if you want it or not
Really? Really??? So if I plug it into a clean Twin, a plexi Marshall, or a Diezel Herbert, I'll still be stuck with an EVH brown sound? Beyond moronic. Having played the pickup myself, that comment is not even remotely true.

Your site is sophomoric drivel...pathetic. I'd love to see the resumes of the reviewers...probably a "who's who" of pimple-faced Saturday afternoon Guitar Center warriors.
face,

meet puncher.

Not really sure why everyone is so offended that we joined this forum. Yes, we posted our info. but it was only to hopefully attract other professionals to talk more about tone and gear. We have zero intent to be disrespectful or create any kind of a negative atmosphere. Wish I could say the same about some of you. We are NOT selling anything. Actually we promote our followers to come to Rig Talk because we know that Rig Talk can provide resources and insights that we can't. We know we can't provide a better service than Rig Talk, we simply offer our opinions and personal experience of gear, that's it.

We simply enjoy talking about tone and gear like the rest of you. Please respect that.

I had no problem with you coming here and promoting your site, although I can see why others may feel differently.
In fact I went to your site hoping to see some cool discussions/reviews. What I saw was a review that transcended opinion...it was simply wrong. If there's one thing that fires me up it's people talking out of their asses which is precisely what your reviewer did. You may not try to create a negative atmosphere, but intentional or not, you've created one that lacks anything meaningful from what I saw in that it has the appearance of a professional review site with the content being anything but that.

If you don't have seasoned players writing well-thought out and accurate reviews, you have nothing.

The respect is mutual - although it seemed as if you were trying to gather members for a specific reason [facts] backed by reputable sources/insiders/engineers. When it is simply another site like that of RT. I hope you see the hypocrisy of your original post.

Do know we welcome you and all of your members to RT!

But please also be aware the Admin pays for server space, URL registration, traffic bandwidth, server upgrades, etc. out of pocket for use of members free of charge. We respect this whole heartedly and also have a great group here who know a few things to make it worthwhile. I believe it was possibly your approach to joining that threw a few of us off simply because it may have seemed distasteful. You could have PM'ed Brad - the owner/Admin - to ask if it was OK to leave the site in your signature for your own advertisement gain with the promise of more users and simply welcomed yourself like everyone else.

Just some advice - this is also the internet. You'll need thicker armor and secret handshakes to last here

I understand you get fired up about opinion based reviews. However, the review is simply what our experience was with that product. Yes it was opinionated, but it was our opinion. What's the old saying "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one." We are learning. I encourage you to read some of our other reviews. You may find one that is actually beneficial.

Thank you for the heads up on the handshakes  I am sorry it came off the way it did. Again, not our intent.

I don't think I've seen this saying quoted correctly in years and the missing piece is critical for it to be meaningful at all. It goes "everyone has one and they all stink."

It's not my intent to get involved in the back and forth, but I think part of what rupe took issue with is the statement that the pickup is exactly to the same spec of Ed's Frankenstrat, which can't be opinion, that should be a matter of fact. I don't know the truth of the matter either way, but statements like that need to stick with the facts.

Anyway, stick around after the hazing. It's the Internet, after all.

CONS:
•Only sounds like EVH (which to some, may not be a con)

How can you even post this in an review with a straight face...

I'm glad you revised your original post, (SPAM)

But the reviews are 12th grade level.

A Bass guitar review with no mention of neck/Wood/frets/pickup...

A Fender logo instantly makes it better?

I'm VERY suspicious of reviews that only contain 2-3 words or sentences of cons, your just regurgitating the Manufacturers spin otherwise... Fail.

We are borderline Gear psycho's more far gone than TGP because we actually PLAY our gear... good luck friend... ;)

I promise you, we do play the gear we have reviewed. No, not all of our reviews go extremely in depth.

Don't you think that is why we come to Rig Talk? To find out more about tone and learn how to "talk the talk." Like I said, we are learning and we are growing.

I will say, I thank you guys for the BRUTAL honesty. Although, a "that'a boy" wouldn't kill anyone... ;)

I spam, but Brad is a dealer - and I was on here years before getting into any business. But I get why some don't like it. I actually promote more stuff (Soldano, Two-Notes) that I have no connection to, except I use it. ;)

As other and I (see the bold) have pointed out, opinions are invalid when it comes to objective items...they only carry meaning when it comes to subjective material. You can't have an opinion on the actual specs of a pickup...they either match those of an original PAF or they don't (14K "don't").

And saying that the pickup "only sounds like EVH" is beyond absurd. It's like saying "I bought a Ford Bullitt Mustang but now I can only drive like Steve McQueen". Reread my first post regarding that nonsense and pay attention this time...there are many factors that make up the coveted "brown sound". A pickup alone isn't going to get you there...fact, not opinion. "This pickup has clear highs, subdued yet articulate mids, and a tight low end in our test guitars" is a valid opinion. "This pickup makes everybody sound like EVH" is simply a dumb thing to say.

You want a "that'a boy"? Then understand the difference between objective/subjective and write your reviews accordingly. Talk about what gear you used to carry out the tests. Let us know something about the reviewer's credentials for extra bonus points ;)

That is great real world advice.

Taken it to heart with a little humility, it will serve anyone well.
