Cory, try an OD1X. I've had VFE, Airis, Sam let me try a Thorpy and the Wizard Leopard pedals, original GE10....still the OD1X stays. It doesn't cut the lows like most boost pedals; unless you want it to...leaves the tone 'big' sounding instead of 'narrowing' it so to speak...
Thanks Tom... appreciate the tip and opinion. Most likely can find one pretty cheap as well..... may have to give one a try. (y)

Everything at noon, in front of the SD60 I had (Sam has it now) and it sounded very modded Marshall-y to my ears. SD1 works well but as you know cuts the lows a bit.

A boosted Naylor could get in that ballpark imo. I’ve had similar-ish sounds to that using my Fortin modded Maxon 808 and also my klon, but I’m sure plenty of good boosts can get the job done. I have 2 Naylor’s atm, no longer have the 4 cam mods I used to own, so can’t do a side by side
I’ll EAT your Naylor’s with the Rivera Stage 4.
or find a heavier on the Marshall/with tweed lean’ness but with the roar in the Rivera line.
It’ll do the Naylor but without shame or embarrassment (dark chewy voicing), but
with FANGS.
It ain’t hiding unless you’re scared.
Go ahead check it out, my amps powered up
& ready to f’n EAT.

My love hate relationship with Naylors..

“They we’re too dark to stay present”
(Pun totally intended!!!)

Sounds like maybe your Naylor was one of the Duel models where the bite switch didn't work on the higher gain mode. Both mine can get plenty cutting and present if needed. In my friend's re-amp my Naylor cut almost as well as my '79 JMP2203, which we all know is an amp that cuts through great and has teeth. It was though my '95 SD60 that was used, which is brighter and more raw than my 2017 SD100. I wouldn't have kept either Naylor if if they didn't have those bite switches. Would be too dark like you said

I think most boosts can get it into modded Marshall territory (EL34's help a lot too), but best for that has to me definitely been my Fortin 808. When I had an OD1X I agree about it with respect to eq and lows, it did what we want boosts to do, but I didn't keep it partly for it's actual tone, which I remember being a bit off to me somehow, weird artifacts or harmonic content maybe (kinda like the Empress pedals), but for the price hard to beat. I sold the Wizard Leopard a while ago, but still kept the Thorpy Heavy Water. That one imo doesn't cut lows (if anything even makes things thicker), but loosens things up. I like that one, but don't use it that often. I mostly just use either the Klon or Fortin when I boost. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm enjoying it more than the vintage 808 and OD9 I'm borrowing from my friend that are worth a lot these days

Haha you must have had an issue dialing yours in; or your speakers are the problem? I like bright(see: 1972 Marshall for reference) and my old Naylor could get bright enough for me.
See, there’s this thing called PRESENCE and all you do is this: Dime it. Treble to taste. Easy.
Rivera? Oh they are nice, but nowhere near the tone of the Naylor. I owned one of Jason Bieler’s TBR 1SLs and it was ok. Really nice cleans; needed a boost to get enough gain though and even then it fell short of a good 2203.
Built well and the loop is great; can take any type of octal power tube which is cool.
But the tone, vs a Naylor SuperDrive?
Haha dude you crack me up.

No contest. Naylor every day, and it’s not close.

Agreed on all. Rivera’s are nice amps for the price, but not top tier in tone. With the bite switch engaged I don’t really consider Naylor’s to be dark amps (just internet misinformation with that I guess or maybe from models that didn’t have the switch for the higher gain mode) and with EL34’s is even more cutting, uppermids and Marshally

For real though, if you need the bite,
dime the mids,treble,presence and play
“Rainbow In The Dark” over & over
for hours on end,

⚡️?⚡️??

•Racer’, seriously though Naylors kick all kinds of ass but dark amp syndrome from all these concentrated-
( HELL YEAH Braintheory!)
-amplifiers can surface at any moment,
especially when ‘tone factoids’ “pretend”
to be honesty amongst them internet gear’ forums.
Ya feel me?
LTFOL!!
Hell yeah man, laughing is good!

For the record*** it’s highly unlikely a Deluxe Reverb could eat a MEATY Naylor,
even with a Herbert pedal in loop, 2 6V6’s?
There’s only so much ass to eat unfortunately.

Pretty stoked right now Racer, just learned my 1st entire song including nuances on the drums.
My self-taught 1st song?
Alice In Chains “It Ain’t like That”
Super stoked for real.
My 1st entire song on guitar was “Stand By Me”.
I saw & heard this hot shot dude in high school
playing it in a somewhat flamenco vibe or whatever
Hmmm.
So I took the single notes of the song and looked into this “power chord thing” .
Before I knew it, I was injecting
power chords on those notes like Jerry Cantrell
did with his amps in the studio.
Then it was the locking in with a drummer for the 1st time,
At first, I had nothing, he barked out to play something…?
So I thought of something bad ass and from being obsessed with power chords,
I pulled out & locked in with Guns & Roses
“One In A Million”
from G-N-R Lies acoustic record.
I actually wore out the cassette wheels on the cassette from listening to that & The Beatles 24/7.
So I ONCE AGAIN, put them chunkers on it homie!
And the buzz from locking in with a drummer while not really knowing what I was doing or where we were going with it felt like we “had the force”.
?DOPAMINE?
That day changed my whole life man.
