That is a Jose for sure. I have had many across my bench and thats definitely one of them. You can tell by the layout and lettering and the remote standby jack. Dave
True, but who knows who else has been inside working their "magic". I'd like to see some gut shots...

Does anyone knows how many amps mister Arredondo modded?? More or less than Cameron?
I'd say more. He was really prolific in the 80s...

I'd pass regardless for that much $$$
+1 - You could have someone build you one from the schematic and a stock marshall for WAY WAY less...

I take it those are Ikebe Gakke?

Correct. Amp Station in Shibuya. Heading over there in about an hour with camera in hand.

It was there still on hold. they wouldn't let me play it, no gut pictures, if the guy doesnt pay by Monday then I can have a crack at it. oh well. life goes on..

I did find out that it was bought by a guy about 7 or 8 years ago from teh same store and he had owned it ever since. previous to that the same guitar store had bought it from LA but where is was bought from in LA and who owned they have no idea.

another Jose up for sale in Japan. this one doesn't seem to have any of the physical characteristics of the previous one and is also more exspensive 420,000 yen (just shy of 4600USD)
The place selling it is one of those elitist places that wont let you try anything until you buy it. most ass backward way of doing business in my opinion.

Like was said months ago. The "F" guys (Fortin or Friedman) can easily make a Jose amp...but almost guarantee that it will sound good when they are done. Heck, for $4600 it would probably be cheaper to buy an amp in North America, send it to Fortin/Friedman, then fly over and pick it up personally

Im not actually interested in buying it. but about having one of the Fs do a job on a marshall, not probably, absolutly. I did ask and did the math. I am actually thinking about that route at some point but right now I have my eye on a certain purple and black amp I want to pick up if I can unload one of my bogners.

There is no way on earth I would drop that kind of coin for a Jose when numerous people can build you one for less than half that. 4600 dollars and you cant play through it till you buy it??

Boof,
I'm a Jose fan but.......
I don't know if the amp has some nastalgia for you because Jose did the mod but just a few observations. One is that even though Jose modded the amp, you don't know who might of been in it since then...just an observation. Two $3400 is a lot of $$$ to be throwing at a modded amp but to each there own.
Three, there are Guys like Dave Friedman and Mike Fortin who are familiar with those mods and If want to save Money, Id highly recommend having an amp modded by one of them to the Jose Specs. Even if you bought an amp and had the mod done it will be cheaper then $3400 and I can assure you that those guys Know what they are doing and it will sound killer...... Trust me on this!

all in all... Best of luck and I hope this helps!!

~R~

Have to run with this unless that amp has some insane history, that scratch you could have Dave or Mike mod 2 amps and that includes the cost of the amps.

and shipped to Tokyo? that raises the cost allot I would guess....
If I was to go the Dave F route I think that I would look at the Naked Amp. (still for sale at the same store for about $2700) Amps are pretty damn expensive here: XTCs sell new for about $5500 and XTC customs for about $6000 new.... herberts are about 4000, CAAs are about $5000 Admittedly yes, the knee jerk reaction is "its a real jose" but if there is something that special about it I will find out tomorrow if it is still there and I can get some one on one time with it.

oooh Crap!! I had no idea you lived in Tokyo but the scary thing is that it still might be cheaper lol :D

yup. I haven't lived in the US for about 15 years now.... Good side is that stuff like this and other rare and hard to find pops up from time to time down side is that you will pay for it..
AWESOME!!
Tokyo is one of the places that I really want to go to in the worst way!! I just need to convince the girlfriend :rawk:

all the best!

If you have a weak heart, avoid riding in a taxi in Tokyo at all costs   We lived in Japan 4 years, really cool place

well i don't know about that amp but i know the place and I went there once because I wanted to try some Suhr guitars (I hadnt played one at that point) and that place happens to have a very large number of Suhr guitars. All the guitars in the shop were locked up in guitar cases. I told the guy I want to try one and he said that they wouldn't pull them out unless I intended to buy one. The argument went "well I don't know if I want to buy one until I try one". this went back and forth and the guy said well then we will let you try several but the expectation is that you are going to buy one of them. I had to pick from a web page of the stores stock. I try some. I make some notes and then say thanks I'm going to think on it and Ill get back to you in a couple days. The store clerk starts to really give me an attitude and is almost raising his voice at me at this point for not buying one right there and then. I left muttering a few choice words under my breath. Just a matter of principle for me I told myself that I would never go back there.

So I dont know if they wont let you play the amp unless you buy it but if my previous experience with that store is any indication then I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

That would be extremely annoying, I know that in Japan there are people who would be ok with that because they are not buying it to play anyway. There is a group of Japanese guys that come over here every year and buy a ton of stuff from John Landgraff. They buy it sight unseen and they pay him cash. All of it that he can build in a year. Every year. hhmmmmm...... I guess things just work differently over there.

I lived in Japan for 10 years on and off.
Yokosuka, Yokohama, OKinawa.........
I loved the gear that was available to me then.........IBANEZ, KILLER, ESP....etc....
But the USA import stuff was freaking ridiculous in price!!!
Good thing I was Military and could import at a "Cheaper price" then slip it to my "Nihongo-jin tomodachis" for a good price!

I loved my time there!!
Bought me some KICK ASS guitars!!
