Can anyone talk me out of an ultra II tele

The Mexican stuff is garbage, shit necks and pickups.

I have a feeling Fender made the Ultra series because of Suhr.
I'm pretty much done with Fender USA and Mexico. I'd rather get a Classice Vibe Squier.
I will say, my CS Tele is fantastic, every bit as good as Suhr or Anderson. But it also costs like it.

If it’s a good one, get it…but my recent fender experience says they are not consistent at all.

Thanks to my son’s lessons, I spend way too much time in GC these days so have played all of the inventory that has come through this particular store for the past 8 months. Fender has been all over the map; one Tele ultra was amazing, the Strat equivalent was dog shit with poor fret dress and the deadest response ever.
The most consistent Fender product to roll through? The Squire J Mascis Jazzmaster. Have played 6 or 7 different ones at this stage and have all been good guitars. Other than those and some custom shop fenders, I wouldn’t buy without playing first

Made in Corona isn't what it used to be. Fender is probably a big proponent of DEI.

C’mon dude, that bullshit has nothing to do with any of this. Especially when you have no idea what Fender actually does. The only thing true at Fender on employee makeup is they have about as many Mexicans working in Corona as they do in Ensenada, but it’s been that way for decades. I’ve toured both facilities.
All it means is Fender doesn’t give a shit about QC, regarding out the door setup.

Being Mexican has nothing to do with it. DEI just means certain people are picked for jobs regardless of skills.

Don’t think it has much to do with DEI and a lot more to do with wood selection and availability. Seems that the majority of Fender coming through is green or completely dead wood. Masterbuilt from the custom shop with the majority of that wood ends in the same guitar

I know what the fuck it means. But you can’t throw it around like it’s some catchall boogeyman for shit not being its best. Especially when you have no idea what the company actually does with its hiring. The Mexican thing was just stating fact. The QC issues are on leadership, not the race of the employees.
For example, I used to work for Comcast and to say they were on the DEI teat was a massive understatement. We were having monthly, division wide, Teams/video call meetings about it as they went on and on about acceptance and unconscious bias. There we were, techs just waiting in our Vans to head out, having to listen to this corporate swill that just meant hmm, I guess my old, white, straight male ass isn’t going to move up into that other department after all. Tech for life homie.
I know what DEI is.

You previously mentioned fret work and setup, that has nothing to do with wood and all to do with employees.

Well, I thought it seemed like a valid possibility, especially when Indonesian made guitars seem to have better build quality.

In that Sir, you are very correct. Fit and finish, setup. That’s on the human element.

Nope just worked at a Fender dealer in San Diego and was the only employee who volunteered to go on Fender’s dime. Tequila we had on a night out in Ensenada was off the chain. What 26 year old is going to say no to that!
I was going to take a trip to Ensenada and Tegucigalpa with a friend who had been down there several times. We were gonna take our tax returns and kick around for a couple weeks, but he made too much money and had to pay in. Trip cancelled.

Yeah, but that’s a leadership QC standard thing. Asia is proving to us that if a company cares enough about the training and what it standardizes, where the person comes from doesn’t matter.
Now if we get a recent video tour of Corona/Ensenada and 1 out of 5 people are black, non binary (but Lesbian really), green haired beauties living their best life, swiping Tik Tok Yas Queen! instead of doing a decent fret dressing, we might have something.

Fair, but to clarify that’s a little poor word choice on my end. Most of the setup and fret dress I am referencing has been due to the necks moving and fret sprout. I am just pulling shit off the GC wall, so I not getting I and checking much beyond basic visual and playability points. Clear twist or bow related items, not if a nuts been cut correctly or the like…

The whole Baja strip is just a pretty washed out dry part of the country. Granted it’s been a long time since I was down there but I would much rather go to a more southern part of Mexico or over to the Gulf side.

Oaxaca looks pretty nice but at this stage I'd rather see Greece, Montenegro, and Serbia or something.
