Gents,

As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of the Cameron-Modded Marshall tones but as those are hard to come by, I'd like to have something similar. I'v heard a few of Dave's mod clips but there are some that I had never heard of before.

As a frame of reference, I'm looking for something like John Sykes' tone on his last Whitesnake album or Doug Aldrich on the DIO Live in NYC DVD. I love that oversaturated tone.

Although the Brown Eye mod sounds great (as well as all of the mods), I get the impression that I might be wanting more gain. Can someone explain the BE, HBE, Blackeye?, Custom 45, and any other mods? Thanks!

I'd say the BE and C45 are probably not the sound you are looking for, they are lower gain than what you've described. The HBE is closer, but the voicing is different. I would just email or call Dave and see what he thinks.

From what I was able to hear of them online, the HBE voicing has more bass/low mids then the Cameron voicing. Both are pretty tight. I like the HBE's voicing for single note lines, it sounds to me like a tone that works equally well for rhythm/lead while the Cameron clips sound maybe a hair bright for lead to me (but I like dark). The Black Eye sounded like a slightly brighter/tighter HBE to me, so kind of middle of the road?

This is all youtube/mp3's/etc though, so someone with REAL experience should chime in.

The Hbe and the Black eye have a 2 part difference. The hbe can have more sizzle I make it a little richer for feel and tone but it can be either way or on a switch. In fact I could put 2 switches to go between the Black eye or Hbe or a few voicings in between. This surely will give you the tone in one setting or the other. The sykes tone is really a Jose mod turned up loud. This sound can be done with my mods. Dave

Whatever you end up having Dave do, you will be happy. The work he did on my Blankenship Custom 45 is beyond amazing.

Dave is the man...

Thanks Dave and everyone else who posted feedback!! I really appreciate the input.

I sort of figured the HBE or Black Eye were more of what I'd be interested in. To be honest, I'd love to have all of them but I'm trying to keep the price within reason. I'm retiring from the military in the spring so I want to have a little money around for food, etc. :)

There is only a 200.00 dollar difference to get them all. So 700.00 for all 500.00 for one. What kind of amp do you have to mod?

Hey Dave. I'm the guy who emailed yesterday about the Marshall 1959SLP Reissue.

Thanks for your quick response and explanation of everything.

What about the Angry hippie and the Custom 45? How do they compare to the HBE?

Dave I like the old skl sound of the C45 and High gain C45 as well as the HBE and BE.

But for solos I am a lover of Skyes. Can you get this sykes tone? Saturation and endless sustain. I could get this with an old Cameron but its lonnnnng gone. Here is a clip from Sykes solo amp using his modded amp.

I tried this with a HBE and it doesn't have the sustain different tone overall.

Well a few tweaks and I can get you that tone no problem.

Now you got me excited LOL! Same sustain which is pretty impressive.

I could even put a switch to take you from the normal one to that.

So what's the fat brown eye mod? Is it like the hairy, but fatter, or like the regular brown eye but fatter? :)

You wont be sorry......... :D
My plan is the same thing.
Scoring a Marshall....off to Dave for the Works....
Happy with the Ultimate tone!!
