Can you identify my Fender Bassman?

Wondering how to tell what circuit it has... Someone told me he thought it was AB165, but how do I tell?

When I sold my 69 Bassman i had them tell me what circuit it was because the seller wanted to know.

Based on what I can tell, that is an AB165. It has not been blackfaced. Has all original electrolytics, at least the one on the bias circuit really needs to be changed. The 2 orange caps in the Bass Inst. Channel circuit are not original. It does have a 3 prong power cord which is good, but I would highly recommend a cap job.

Those are great amps for the money and a nice platform to mod and tweak a bit too. I had a '67 SF drip edge, I miss that amp.

Thank you! I had the 3-prong cord put on a couple months ago, but that is the only thing I have had done to it. Any idea what a cap job would run? (ballpark). Would that improve the sound, or is it just preventative maintenance? Sorry I don't know all that much about amp guts

I have done Cap jobs myself in the past, but I bet its a $200-300 to have it done.

I did a cap job on my '66 Fender Champ and noticed a big difference. The amp seemed to sound more lively. Make sure they only replace the electrolytic caps. There are some under the metal tray (often called the doghouse) on the side of the chassis that the tube stick out. The others are the brown colored caps (one is white). Look for leakage on the sides, that is a bad sign that they really need to be replaced. As you probably know, there are high voltages in the amp so be careful.

A cap job is often preventative maintenance, but its a good idea to do. It won't hurt the value of the amp.

Take Jerry's word, if he says its an AC568, than its an AC568 circuit. If you want more confirmation ask over at the plexi palace which I linked to before.
