Trump imposed tariffs ostensibly because he thought other countries had trade surpluses with the US and that was somehow unfair. Also sometimes they had some low level tariffs.

In Australia's case, the US had the trade surplus with us - 2:1. We had no tariffs on the US under a Free Trade Agreement with them. Yet they imposed tarifs on us even though "they were treating us very badly" given you already had a trade surplus with us.

As for Albanese and Rudd - I never vote for Labor. I voted rightwing. Trump fucked our elections by his behaviour. There was a huge backlash against him. He scared people here. Now we are left with a decimated rightwing of politics and the traitors are in absolute control. Thanks a lot.

The real problem is economies of scale and the size of our market. Yes the Government has a role to play. There is nothing to stop them promoting niche industries and manufacturing. However my first point is the primary reason manufacturing has declined here.

Canada has refused to cooperate with border control; and has been very uncooperative in terms of negotiating reciprocal tariffs. Most Americans that are paying attention to the tariffs are tired of playing nice with Canada.

I had a recent deal fall through purchasing a guitar from a Canadian shop, as the shop was unable to get it through Canadian customs, according to UPS. The shop tried twice to ship it, both failed to clear Canadian customs; US Customs never received custody of the item. It was over a month in duration, when I finally asked for my refund, which I received. So, yes. I'll blame Canada for this too.
