I can't believe you guys left out Killer Dwarfs! They are the best!

Till Tuesday
Chilliwack
Voivod (do they go back to the 80's?)
Cowboy Junkies (or were they 90's only?)
Allanah Myles (that 1-hit wonder song "Black Velvet")
Helix
Kick Axe (!)
Men Without Hats (who doesn't remember Safety Dance?)
Slaughter (not the hair metal band, but the Death Metal band that once had Death's Chuck Schuldiner in it)
Tragically Hip

I'm pretty sure that all of those are Canadians...

Saga was basically a one hit wonder, and On The Loose was barely a hit. The majority of their stuff was pretty lame.

That's pretty funny if you actually believe this. Saga is no one hit wonder. You might not like the stuff they did - and that's fine - but you cannot come here and make that kind of "statement".

Commercial success isn't the point. Saga rocked in every way, tremendous musicians and brilliant composers. Same goes with Kim Mitchell, might not be your average commercial success but he is one great guitar player and composer.

Dude, don't waste your time with a rebuttal to shit comments like this. The only reason I ever posted anything in this forum is to attempt some kind of positive thread that gives props to any musicians that were not afraid to get out of their "armchair/online hero" fantasy & take the risk to achieve something they were passionate about. There are a lot of douchebags in this forum, as there are in any forum whether it be TGP, HC, etc. etc. Though I've never been a big-time forumite, the last straw for me with this & every other online arena is when the owner of the manufacturer that was the reason I even joined Rig-Talk decided to "Take A Vacation" recently. I can personally relate to his reasons why..............Screw it, I'm outta here! :salute:

P.S. To Brad, the owner of this site......I salute you brotha! You seem like a very upstanding dude & I wish you the best!

So, you try to enlighten the board with your positivety but you call my opinion a "shit" opinion? Does it bother you soo much what my opinion of a band from the 80's is? Who cares! And, am i one of the so called douchebags you mention? Were you a roadie for Saga or something?

Iv'e seen a lot of people get their undies in a bunch over a lot of things but my opinion of a band shouldn't be one of them.

  This song would have been great for the Beverley Hills Cop soundtrack :D Especially that typical Gallien Krueger/Rockman annoying lead tone.

Usually when somebody is knocking something it's because they're jealous.
Why are you so jealous of Canada? :D

Wow...were you actually in Saga?? You're really taking your ball and going home because someone called Saga a semi-One Hit Wonder??? That makes them a "douchebag" as well??? Seems like someone needs to point the finger inward...

The singer in this video plays drums with me now and sings for the Queen tribute I go away with.
I've never seen this...blackmail material! :D

My roommate in college was a huge fan of Von Groove in high school and brought their cd with him to school. I was a big hair metal freak in my day too, but not like him. VG was one of the bands that I actually really dug that he had. Great hooks and songs (if a little cliche'), but by '90 they all were. I really dug the sappy ballad 'once in a lifetime' (as I was getting dumped from my HS sweet heart when I heard it). Embarrassing, but even to this day, when I hear that song, it brings me right back to my college apartment. To be 19 again...

Great that he's still playing out, tell him there is still a few fans out there in the world.

I can't believe that no one has posted Triumph, Ric is an amazing guitar player. Check out the dual in the middle of this song with Steve Morse, both tear it up.

I always liked Saga. They had some cool stuff.

These guys rock.

That's cool...here you go. :D

I give them credit, they wrote everything completely themselves.
The demos of the songs Mike played me before going into the studio actually sounded better to me than the finished album.

Their signing bonus I've heard is pretty legendary in the business. They had three record companies bidding to sign them...it was the largest signing bonus for a new rock band I heard...they all bought nice houses from it before they even made money off the album.

UZEB also rocked, kinda in a jazz way but rocked anyway. Michel Cusson, what an awesome guitar player.

RVS mentioned Triumph in the 4th post. Great band...I was definitely a fan back in the day.

My favorite Canadian band is Max Webster...it's too bad they didn't break out and sell more world wide...great band!

Pretty sure these guys were from Canada.

I was waiting for this one! Up 100% canadian

I work for the Drummers New Band, "Automan.ca"

This has been an amazingly civil thread, like 99% of the threads on Rig Talk. Though some of us do like to have fun with each other, if anything in this thread is enough to make someone leave Rig Talk, well, I really don't know what to say. I'd imagine quilting forums can get more heated than this thread. :D

I can promise that I will continue to make fun of Canada (bands, military, living room color fashion etc) every chance I get because that's about a 5 year old running joke between Digital Jams, Randy Van Sykes and I. Obviously no real offense is intended at Canada, well not that much anyway.....
