cancelling order advice

OK so I ordered a headshell for my Mark IV 3 months ago from Zilla. I was told it would take 3 weeks plus 3-4 days in transit to get to me. I placed the order at the end of April. After 4 weeks I was told that it should done by the following week. 2 weeks later I was told something similar. Then I think mid June I got an apology and they said it was almost finished but they would understand if I wanted to cancel. I didnt want to be a dick and cancel something they were in the middle of actually making. I try to be a man of my word and a deal is a deal. So I told them if they were in the middle of the actual build I would wait. At the end of June I got a message saying that it was being tolexed. That was 16 days ago.


I should have cancelled a long time ago. If they would have been upfront at any given point I would feel better and been able to make a decision. Hell I wouldnt mind waiting another couple weeks but at this point I feel like Im just being told what I want to hear to keep my order in the queue. I know with Covid 19 some stuff has been difficult but this is a headshell not a full amp. Since ordering the headshell I've ordered and recieved a Ceriatone Molecular, Ordered and Recieved a Sourmash headshell, and I sent my amp to Mesa for servicing and got it returned.


So I guess my question is would you guys cancel at this point? I mean it could be shipping any day now or it could be not even started. I dont know at this point. I hate to cancel and stick them with a headshell they just finished not to mention starting the clock over to order one from Mesa. But I imagine I could have ordered 3 headshells from Mesa before I got this one. I sent an email to Zilla on Monday asking if there were any updates and I havent heard anything. This is really bumming me out cause I was thinking about getting a Fatboy 2x12 for this amp.

I think Im going to. Had they said "hey we are having some issues its going to be 6-8 more weeks" I would have been fine. I feel guilty to do this. They offered to let me cancel a month and a half ago but the way they worded it they were almost finished with it. I definitely didnt want to stick them with a headshell and start over waiting even though a headshell from them is $100 more than Mesa. I hate even being put in this situation.

Just sent an email cancelling it. Now I wont be surprised for them to say "Its finished". Funny I can call Mesa and get someone on the phone or return my call in about a day but I cant even get an email after a week here. Granted I know some guys are busier than others but telling me you are tolexing my amp 17 days ago then radio silence.... I was really excited to get this headshell. Oh well. Placing order with Mesa now.

OK so I called it. Apparently it was finished last week and they forgot to email me.... I went ahead and took it but they knocked off the labor cost which was about 50% of the costs. Doesn't make this deal completely ok but at least its something. I really really wanted a Zilla Fatboy 2x12 but I do believe Im just going to get a Mesa 2x12 now.

OK so I called it. Apparently it was finished last week and they forgot to email me.... I went ahead and took it but they knocked off the labor cost which was about 50% of the costs. Doesn't make this deal completely ok but at least its something. I really really wanted a Zilla Fatboy 2x12 but I do believe Im just going to get a Mesa 2x12 now.

Let me know if you end up with an extra. I have 2 Mark IV's and could use a headshell. I got them from GTS in the past but I was talking to him about making me one and he went silent too.
Also everything is meesed up due to this shit. I ordered a hot tub cover on May 5th and still havn't recieved it yet and also waiting on a Bogner 3435 that I ordered since Feb.

Maybe you could mention to them you want something else from them and see if they would do the order with no money to hold it, and a acceptiable time frame for both of you, to be paid when order is completed, tracking number and to be shipped nlt?

I havent placed an order with Mesa yet. Supposedly Im getting the tracking from Zilla today. I tried going the GTS route and he said he was going to do some in the Summer or Fall. Last time I emailed him a month ago he didnt seem really interested. Shame. If someone would do those types of headshells Im sure they could stay relatively busy. Nobody makes them for Medium heads and only a small amount will do them for the short heads.

Are peoples' phones broke these days? Unless they have no phone service, I'm picking one up. I'm sorry, but emailing is lazy, and they get ignored, deleted, not read, missed, laughed at, etc..

I'm in sales - I have 200 customers, I travel, and have hundreds of vendors. If something goes haywire with an order, customer, etc., I'm on the phone. It tends to yield better results, vs. email lip-service/what you want to hear. I would have grown a pair 2 months ago, and cut through the bullshit.

Emails have gotten you nowhere.

He told me he had a batch ready for tolex. Went back and forth a few times and then he dropped off the map. I went ahead and built my own and it came out great. I just scored another short chassis combo this week so I need a headshell for that one.

I have to agree. It sucks, but there are a lot of people that are still "bad at the internet". It's not their fault and a lot of times it's unintentional but it's reality.

Nothing to do with laziness - when shit goes south, having a documented trail of correspondence comes in handy. Whenever I have had to dispute transactions, CC companies/ppal/whatever have noted they were straightforward because of the trail.

If somebody's dicking me around like they did you, I'm picking up a phone and giving them an earful. Email trail my ass, you're getting a phone call and an ultimatum, and the email tiptoeing b.s. comes to an abrupt end.

One or two emails should have been enough. If it was going to be longer they could have emailed me every couple weeks with a "hey we are backed up and havent even started on it" email and that would have been fine. I work from 6am to 3pm on the east coast in a lab where we cant use phones and I cant really take my eyes off a chemical reaction just to walk out and call the U.K.

At any rate I got my tracking number Friday and they compromised enough that Im ok with it. Still I really would love a Zilla Fatboy but Im not going to be buying anything directly from them again.
