Carvin/Kiesel Vader

One thing I would suggest to anybody ordering one is regarding neck size. My brother had a 7 string Carvin several years ago and the neck was kind of big. A lot of shoulder. Ive seen a few people mention that about the Vader, Scott Jones in particular if anyone is familiar with him. Carvin offers a thinner neck option that I'll probably go with.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a 7 string Vader. Its between that and another Anderson. I love Andersons but the price jump makes them nearly double the cost of a Vader. I think the Vader looks really cool. Its lightweight ( I'd get it chambered) and more portable because its headless. The hipshot hardware is great too. Some guy from Italy got an 8 string Vader that's satin finish orange top on black limba back with a zebrawood board that is really cool. Might go that route myself.

I was going to do the same and get another Suhr. I priced out a Suhr at about $2700. I was fine with that but I ended up going with the Kiesel because I need a couple of other things and couldn't blow the whole wad on the guitar.

As for the thinner neck profile, they take off .003 or so I was told. Not much of a difference. I wish I had asked for the actual size of the neck when I was on the phone. I had a DC727 about 9 years ago and don't remember thinking the neck was too big.

IMO it's better to order a guitar with a neck that might be too thick for your taste because it can always be sanded down by a luthier, but if you order something too thin then you are shit out of luck.

The website says .784-.890 for the neck thickness.

I wonder if that is for the 27" scale or the 25.5". It's a pretty wide range so I'm assume the 27".

My Kiesel Vader. Plays very nice, but I'm still not convince on the Kiesel pickups. Thinking about switching these for an SD Distortion/59 combo or maybe a Pegasus/Sentient combo (don't know if this combo will do 80's hard rock/metal).

That's nice ! I like that ! The Kiesel pickups too modern sounding for 80's stuff? A pup swap easy enough I presume. I'm going to order a Vader but I still for the life of me can't decide on what options i want.

Any thoughts on this?

I WISH they made this with a headstock an string thru…

That being said, I'd rock the fuck out of this!

I got their standard neck shape, which to me is not thin but also not a baseball bat. Fretboard radius is 14 inches.

derail questions...

do the standard necks take double ball calibrated or non-calibrated strings or do I need to get the 25.5" neck to use non-calibrated?

double-ball strings are the bomb. ask yourself, do you want one ball or two? whatcha girl want on ya? ;)

I have a guitar with a single DiMarzio X2N (I dig it, my fav pickup after active EMGs. Yes, I dig EMG!) What neck pickup (DiMarzio) pairs well with the X2N in the bridge?

If I get a Vader, I'm going DiMarzio or EMG FTW.

back to the thread,

I spec'd out my Vader at $2,144! Everything I could think of for mods, although I do have to call for some mod 50 stuff
