My local amp tech has an 80's JCM800 4x12 cab that people have been trying to buy off of him for years. All anyone knows is that the thing sounds phenominal regardless of whats plugged into it. He never opened it, so we assumed that it was either full of Greenbacks or V30's. Well he finally let me open it a few months back and what lay before me was a quad of original G12-65's.

So that makes TWO magical 65 cabs.
I had one of those cabs from 1988 until 2003. I bought another one about a year ago, but sold it. Right now I have 4 pair of these speakers (I'm selling two pair right now) dating from '79-'82. Amplifier has one of those cabs and I think psychodave has a few. They are around and you can find them on ebay now and then.

...but the "tweed" ones are another story.

Oh yeah...I've gone through a bunch of vintage Marshall cabs and nothing comes close to my JCM800 straight cab loaded with 65's. This cab is just friggin' magical

I picked the cab up last night. It's in great shape (for a 29 year old cab), the tolex looks good, I verified the speakers are indeed the 65's (thanks Pete!), and I'm going to crank it up tonight.

I haven't played guitar in some months now, so I'm not sure how I'll do clips. :)

Do they the same 65?

Wow. Is the Celestion 65watt craze catching on here at RT? This Sunday the most common phrase was "Let's try it through the 65 cab!"

I must be the only person who left that amp-fest nearly 100% happy with my current gear...

The whole "65 craze" has been going on for a few years. I had an old JCM800 cab with original 65's in it and I sold them for something like $130-150 each. That was too much money to pass up, so I sold 'em. I didn't even give them much time in that cab. lol... Probably a mistake, but oh well.

You should've left happy too. Your rig sounded great.

I did leave happy :D Not only did I get to hear some awesome amps and players, but the fact that I left there without much GAS just confirms that I've found the amp and cab for me

Though I could see myself owning a Landry in the future......... :D
