Celestion Lynchback...and.....or V30? GB?

Anyone who owns Lynchbacks, what do you think would mix well with it? Money is very tight and I may have to go with WGS speakers....or used Celestion Greenbacks. I prefer lightweight magnets for my 412. This is for a Splawn 412. WGS Invaders or ET-65s?
Amps are Bogner Shiva, PWE Event Horizon and Mesa Boogie 3 channel Dual Rectifier.

Why do you want to mix them?

LB are great speakers... Maybe V30. I have an Emi Super V Maybe I'll try that.
 
I dont think a lot of people have tried them to say what would mix well.. I have a quad in a splawn 4x12.. I wouldnt bother mixing them, they sound great on there own.
 
Love my Super V's. Awesome awesome speakers. Paired mine with RI GB's.. the RI are the weak link. I'd go weber with that lynchback.

I agree bro, I made a decision to not mix as it is one more thing to stress about. I was all set going with four LBs in my Splawn 412 till a Bogner engineer emailed me and said to use speakers with heavier magnets, 50oz magnets like V30s and H30s for deep and bigger, throaty low end....especially for high gain. Since my Bogner 212 already has V30s and I am installing Celestion Creambacks into my Stone Age 212, I also wanted to keep my 412 light, which means light magnets, Lynchbacks, Creambacks, Greenbacks, G12-65s, etc. As long as they remain deep, throaty and tight enough, I want to stick with low weight magnet speakers.

Amps are PWE, Shiva and Dual Rec.

I'm not a fan of mixing speakers. I just rec'd a quad and they sound great, but not broken in yet. They do sound good in a 4x12 next to a 4x12 with H30 7th Anny though.
 
For my Bogner 212, nothing sounds as good as V30s or G12K-100s for me so far.
My Stone Age 212C cab is very tight, focused, punchy and articulate. In this cab, the Lynchbacks are bright but mostly because they are not broken in and very different from V30s.
Not a fair test anyway until they are broken in and honestly some amps works better with some speakers than other. I went back and finally tried my Shiva through the Lynchback loaded Stone Age and it rocked! The PWE does not like that combo as much.

But that is OK....variety is a good thing.

I hope they are not as bright in the Splawn which I will have in two weeks.
The Splawn 412 is my only 412.
The Stone Age 212C is also amazing but in a different way. Tighter and more articulate. I think it should mate well with Celestion Creambacks.

On a side note I have tried broken in V30s in my Stone Age and it just as good as my Bogner 212 but different, I like having variety. Stone Age cabs are very punchy and responsive, yes the great design and build quality really makes a difference.

The Splawn 412 is my only 412. I prefer loose, compressed tones, but I like variety. If it doesn't work, I will sell and get a Bogner 412 since after 26 years, Bogner makes my favorite cab.

Never heard anyone describe my 2x12C as being that bright. Did you see the Lynchbacks to a full break in? As I have emailed you a few times, the LB highs will soften as they break in. Like most speakers..they need to be given a chance. Patience is a virtue, my friend...especially when it comes to speakers. ;)
 
Sorry John, I am trying to function on two days with mo sleep and didn't make a lot of sense nor mean what I had said. Yikes! Please se my edited post above. :)
 
I prefer EVM12L's when I can get em, but my VHT 2x12 has custom VHT speakers in it that sound great. I have V30's in all my other cabs... dig them alot.

I have a pair of Lynchbacks and Super V's myself. Didn't care too much for the Super V speakers like I thought I would, but my amp (JCA100H) screams with the Lynchbacks. One of these days I'll mix them both. I always thought a V30 would compliment the Lynchback quite well, and my 2nd choice would be the 65 as mentioned before.

What amp are you using the Super V's with? I played both versions of the Lynchbox (MTS version and new one) through the Super V loaded Lynchbox cab and thought it sounded great. Even played the 50 watt MTS Lynchbox through a Super V loaded 2x12 prototype Lynchbox cab, again sounded great. Super V speakers in my Avatar Vintage (Bogner OS lookalike), just sounds dull with my JCA100H. I found myself really turning up the treble, presence, and gain.


Could be that they aren't broken in, yet? :dunno:
 
I decided on the following....done.
No mixing!

Bogner 212OS - V30s
Stone Age 212C - Creambacks
Splawn 412 - Lynchbacks
 
After some thought . . .

I think my displeasure with the Super Vs may be due to them not being broken in yet. I distinctly remember having the same complaints about the stock Eminence X12000 speakers in my Soldano cabinet I bought a few years ago. Maybe I just need to be patient and just play the damn things . . . :)

Splawn 412 - Lynchbacks

As the LBs break in, they are really impressing me.....like a cross between a T-75, Greenback, and V30. I know guys like Scott Splawn prefer the Creambacks, but I don't own a Splwn right now, and most of my aps are darker than his. Bogner, PWE, Mesa....

Are the creambacks something like a smallblock??
