So, in my 3 amp buying spree few weeks past, I managed to pick this one up from a solid member over at TGP (not sure if he is here).
It started life as a 1987 4 Holer and was brought up to 2004 JEL spec by Fusionbear (always wanted to try some of his work from way back).
2 master volumes (1 for lead boost- strictly another volume knob) foots switchable, NFB knob, bias points all wrapped up in a gorgeous Mojotone head shell.
So, not really sure about the JEL mods (technically that is) other than what I have seen online (and of course the real JEL amp), so can't speak to that.
1st few days took a bit to dial in. It is a 2204 so even with MV IT IS LOUD! EQ controls more sensitive then usual and don't believe there is a bright cap.
At Volume of 1ish, it sounds like a very nice, mid gain 800. Plugged in my SD-1 and you have that 80's rock/metal sound depending on settings. Plenty of bark and midrange.
So far, pretty nice little amp. DO notice it is a bit sensitive with the Sd-1 with some settings causing REALLY nasally bad sounds.
Enter Fryette PS100 I received on Saturday. Cranking the Amp to around 7 or 8 and using the PS100 for volume REALLY changed the game. Easily do 80's metal like Dio, Scorpions straight in. Def more gain and aggression then a stock 800 (more like a light to mid boosted 800. Bright, spanky barky if you want it to be. (where my Butterslax really doesn't want to to go)
Hasn't taken to the SD-1 to well tho. Have to try my buxom boost.
Will eventually put up a shitty video or 2 using a GoPro of this and my new Monomyths. Don't expect much tho
