The toothpaste logo Charvels and Jacksons were MIJ, IIRC... I have this one

I have a MIA SoCal in candy green and just picked up the MIJ beauty below today. I will be giving them a solid A/B on Sunday night.

I swapped the Tone Zone out for a JB in the SoCal almost immediately so the bridge pups are the same.

I have a USA style 1 san dimas and have played it back to back with a MIJ style 1 and they were identical in every way accept for the rounded off fretboard edge. Am hanging out to play a MIM one to compare but they are not readily on sale here

And yeah the jackson catalogue is all over the place when it comes to import model. The necks are different on so many you really need to play one before buying it

James lugo picked up a brand new SoCal (mim) for his rock of ages gig and immediately swapped the stock pup for a DSD. He a/b the two, and the DSD was a little tighter on the bottom end; was better for his tone I guess.

All in all though, he talked pretty highly of the guitar...came out of the box tuned  I'm thinking for the limited funds I have, coupled with the gas pain I'm having I won't find a better guitar.

I appreciare all the feedback

It goes like this,
1.Old original pre pro's and 1981-83 strat heads are best of the best
2.custom shop
3.MIA pro mod
4.MIJ pro mod
5.MIM pro mod

I'm very happy w/ my Candy Blue MIM So~Cal Pro Mod. I think ya'd be just as happy as well

Found, what I consider, a good deal on a blue burst MIM. So I got it. Brand new to my door for about 6-1/2.

Should have it within next few days...I hope!

$650 for a new Blue burst is a very good deal!
even though these are not as great as the originals the latest MIM charvels are still a hell of a lot of guitar for under $1000 ;)

I have four of the MIM. Three I purchased new at an average price of $500. These guitars are an absolute steal at around $500 to $600. I did get one that had a bad paint finish on it but returned it. The rest have all been great. Love these guitars. I did have a USA a while back and while it was probably a little better, it was also nearly twice as much as I paid for the MIM's.

I'm a lover of maple necks and this one looks good to me...the picture does anyway. And I'm also a lover of the fatter and taller frets, which this has.

I love the look of the blue burst,,,,always have wanted a guitar like that.

I figure if it plays well enough, and I felt the need to, it'd be easy enough to swap out pups or upgrade the block and / or tuners.

I like the look of that Blue Burst. I thought about getting one of those myself!

Congrats!

Where are these being sold for $500?

I got two from Musiczoo when they had one of their big sales. I got a red SD1 HT for $475 and a white SC1 for $535. I got a blue SD1 HH from a dealer on Ebay for $450 about a month or so ago. Yes, all three were brand new. If you look around you can find some smokin deals.

Will do. Should be in tomorrow.

Spent some time this morning setting it up, to Eb.,,like I like it. Got to say though it came out of the box pretty much in tune, to standard of course.

The finish is gorgeous on the body, very pleased with that.
The neck feels as good, and looks as good as I had hoped. It's got that tight maple graininess to it  Love the big'ol frets on it as well. The neck is flatter, but wider than I'm used to. That'll take a little getting used to...but plays very well. Love the Unfinished wood.

The pickups,...not quite sold on those yet, bridge particularly. Not totally discounting it but not in love with it yet either.

All in all, very pleased.
Thanks for all the feedback guys and education!
