Thanks, for posting this. I've heard about Ghost in the past, but never bothered to give them a listen. Because of this posting, I just d/l'ed Meliora and I'm glad I did!

Ghost is the best band out there today, and I'm finally getting a chance to see them a couple days before Halloween...

In the OP's video he's wearing a mask similar to his Papa II mask just minus the face paint and a sweet pencil thin stache. If you look at the progression of the costumes you can see why they started this thing of getting a new Papa for every album. Papa I had a very obvious scary mask, it wasn't form fitted very well especially around the ears/back of the neck so for the second album and I assume many many hours of looking at masks and prothetics to apply to his face Papa II was announced (the one you see in the Year Zero and Secular Haze videos) but to give him such a distinct look it detracted heavily to his voice live and you can tell it's muffling him pretty bad in videos from that era, 2013/2014. For the latest album they hired Papa II's "3 month younger brother" Papa III (Fun fact the name Papa Emeritus is a bad pun, since emeritus is Latin for retire... And how do Popes usually retire? Well that is until the last Pope who just quit, which they admit he ruined the joke) and he uses an even less obtrusive mask so his face is less detailed and distinct as Papa II's was but he can at least sing now

And yes, not to ruin the mystery, but all 3 Papas were Tobias who writes all the songs and plays much of the guitar on the albums. He and the 2 guitarists are the main group of songwriters and the core of the band, I believe the drummer has been replaced a few times (a couple times by Dave Grohl live which the band has finally admitted to) and the bass player has been replaced at least once...

Meliora is the best album of the year and their song Cirice is, in my opinion, the best song to have been written in decades.
All hail Ghost.

Being a fan of King/Fate, BOC and Argento/Goblin there are aspects of Ghost I like but they have yet to have a song, let alone an album, that I like all the way through. Usually great riff or verse but weak chorus or middle section.

Killer intro and verse riff here but has weak moments that lose me. Plus the singer not exercising any dynamics gets tiresome. His voice doesn't have the character that Bloom/Dharma have and the dynamics of KD. I think these guys will have a good career but will always be high level cult band, not widespread huge.

On a completely separate note try and watch this and not laugh....
Power metal is always good for a chuckle when it's not pulled off well.

This one is like they took the dude from the Sub Species movies, threw him in a Tall Man dwarf crusher with Biff Byford and then stretched him out again!

While I like Ghost, I would hardly call them a prolific band and I would hardly call "Circle" the best song of the past few decades. I think you should go listen to some Big Wreck for much better song writing.

While I love the production of their albums and their live show, I'm not a big fan of their live guitar tone. There's no monitors or amps onstage, so apparently they're using in ears and modelers. Guitar sound is kinda bright and thin. It's got a nice bite to it, but IMO it would sound much better if they were playing through something thicker and darker. Perhaps some Orange amps or something similar.

Tried listening to some Big Wreck. Way too pop like to me. Sounds like U2 or The Police.

I love it. Just downloaded the new album.
Can't wait to dig into it.
Cool stuff.

pretty cool....vocals you can understand, nicely arranged tunes, songs guitar solos, and not detuned down to loose rubber band negative C# . Is it the 80's again? LOL

it's interesting. not for me, but i dig what their doing.

Kinda droning, simple music with a gimmicky image, but maybe it's music that takes time to sink in??

Ghost are on tour in the US with Purson opening. I really dig Purson, I picked up their 2013 and 2014 releases and have been listening to what I can find.

I dig this, keyboard has some technical difficulties early on in the live vid below, looks like he's playing keys through a Fender guitar amp?

not metal. psychedelic, fresh/new yet familiar. I dig the girl singer/guitarist on many levels.

It's the whole thing for me. Music is good. Nothing I'd want to play on guitar, too simple, but the songwriting is good. I'd love to see them live.

This is another band that I think just kills it on this album. I'm not crazy about their older stuff as the production is too light and retro for me.

I saw Baroness open for Ghost a couple years ago and Baroness destroyed them in the tone department. Different animals altogether as a show goes but both were very fun to see live.

The biggest difference being that one of these bands has somewhat memorable music, the other...not quite as much.

Seen them live, and they suck ass.
Lot of pre recorded vocal harmonies and the singer is rather whispering than singing. Nice dudes anyway, communicating great and they at least know which country are they in. Europeans. :)
The songs without the singer are ok, but nothing spectacular. Good old 70s rock, the last songs are very pop oriented. I guess they eased on the imagery to get through US conservatism.
I can't stand the singer's voice, sorry, they are the Nickelback of metal.

This is completely badass! Thanks for posting!

I remember being in real love with this band years ago, in those shitty times when every guitar player was a djent -ist and every vocalist know only how to scream.
