Chubtone Or Other Charvel Experts - So Cal Set Up Questions

I got a reply from Charvel today with some setup info. The info it gave was for all Charvel/Jackson guitars with this radius and not a specific model.

Relief at 8th fret = .004"
String height at 17th fret:
Bass side = 4/64"
Treble side = 3/64"

Pickup height was suggested to start at 4/64" on both sides.

Good thread--I have the same question... new So Cal and the strings seem awfully high off the fret board. Is lowering the action as easy as just lowering the Floyd/bridge?

Thanks,

Yes and no... because the more the floyd goes down, the closer the strings get to the humbuckers which are fixed/direct mounted. Best way is a combo of lowering the bridge and shimming the neck to bring the fretboard closer to the strings. Even at that I wish I could get it a tad lower but I'm getting buzz if I do. Guess I have to admit that i love how it stays in tune and the layout of everything but i am not as in love with the neck and setup as some others here. I shred way faster on my N4 spec neck (as previously mentioned).

So Cal pickups aren't direct mounted so they can be adjusted.

woopsie, my mind was in San Dimas country.... you have more flexibility then..

You know, I dropped the bridge to where I'm "used to" and DID notice a difference in tone. Haven't messed with the neck relief yet as it looks fairly straight. So now the dilemma--playability vs. tone (or switch out the Tone Zone for a pickup that accommodates the lower action better)?

If you have 2/32nds releif that is WAY too much! Factory recomends .004, you have .0625! Over 15 times too much! That's probably why your action is so high.

I set all of my Charvel/Jackson type guitars at 1/16th at the 12th fret. That is considered pretty low.
