I remember seeing the Digitech 2120 manual when I was younger and thought it was a phonebook, lol.
the only digitech rack unit i’ve ever owned was the OG ips 33 aka poor man’s eventide.

pretty limited mono in/stereo out and like the roland sde-1000 super easy to clip the input,
but it did have a nice analog warm to the sound versus other thin chipmunk pitch shifters of those days. if i could’ve afforded the rack space and extra dedicated loop switching/routing to kick it in and out of the signal path, it would have stayed.

the next version ips 33B added the delay component and was a better pick.

this is my only digitech item left:

I had an IPS33B back in the day also. I think I sold it for $100 way back when. I never end up using pitch stuff very much.

I still have that Reverb pedal also. Only thing I dont like about it is that it doesn't have a pre-delay control. I still have 4 of the Hardwire pedals. I like them a lot.

the reverb pedal is pretty cool but oddly enough my favorite reverb in a pedal i have is in the magic stomp II/ hall setting. the H9 is great for those ultra trippy black hole and shimmer reverbs.

however this has my interest piqued…

years ago i put together a small uni-strut pedalboard for my son when he started playing at church and it had the barber tone press comp, bad monkey od, hardwire delay, and tc trinity reverb. small and great sounding!

I am sure that pedal is cool. I have played with IR Reverbs on the PC, and that is what the Sunset Reverb is. They can sound very realistic, but not very tweakable.

I mostly like Reverb for some background space, so I dont like anything too fancy. I use the Hall of Fame a lot, and it is OK for that. I am thinking about picking up the Golden Reverberator or Collier though.

it would be pretty sick to have that hotone verbera pedal loaded with those lexicon pcm 70 halls and circular delays, pcm 42 delays and the sunset sound reverb,

but then again it would also be really cool if ik multimedia made those available as reverb & delay selections on the tonex pedal!

tonight i dropped the boss rce-10 1/2 rack chorus into R2D2 (my rack 🤣) running it mono into loop 4 of the 2290 and i was very pleased with the results:

it was like having the 2290 sounds with its own modulation flavor mixed with an SDE modulation switchable in and out by itself or stacked with the equally switchable rockman chorus into stereo loop 5.

but i may move the rockman into loop 3 running mono and run something else time based in loop 5.

These days if you have an amp that is midi switchable you could use the fractal VP4 - which I think has mid and program clean tone effects and one dirty effects to switch using the fractal.

I have a feeling IK might announce a bigger, more features, pedal this year with effects from Amplitube.

I don't think the existing ToneX pedals have the processor or memory to run IR Reverbs.

Damn I definitely need to put the racks back to work!

The old IPS33B had a GREAT pitch shift, especially if you wanted to do that real time whammy effect with an external exp pedal.

Holy trip down to memory lane, Batman! :ROFLMAO:

Dual 'S-DISC II' processors, 0 latency patch switching...the floor controller larger than a Boss GT-5... and the fact that it was unobtanium pricewise for teenage me... So I had to settle for a simple Zoom 2020 at the time...while my buddy got the flagship Zoom 8080...remember that thing?

@mentoneman totally with you on the BE-OD Deluxe. I had the original, loved it so much...found out about the Thermionic Dlx kit to self-build one, did that, sold the Friedman and my self-built one is a staple on my board, providing the best amp-in-a-box 80's hotrodded Marshall tones, for when my Engl Savage is just a tad too dry, raw and modern sounding, when you you're playing Lay it Down or In My Dreams. I've tried and owned so many of these amp-in-a-box pedals, including a few tube ones (still got my H&K Tubefactor for the low/mid gain stuff). But the BE-OD Deluxe truly is one of the best.

(Edit: processor type...I remembered it as 'RISC', but it was S-DISC II'...

and that Freight carrier of a foot controller...65cm (25.5") wide!!!

agreed! funny how the OG whammy pedals fetch a handsome price when the IPS33B w/expression, although more cumbersome, kills it.

“Zoom; When you want the best tone on the block….” 🤣

they actually make some sneaky cool pedal stuff nowadays but yah…when my old college roommate first bought a zoom half racker and threw it in the loop of his mesa SOB (what a perfect name).

the eq-comp-dist-chr-dly-rvb preset coupled with his wafer thin ibanez wizard was temu lifeson tone on meth. the sound of regret, buyer’s remorse and plugging into a microwave with a headphone jack.

wow.
in listening to lead tones for some inspiration, i stumbled upon this recent clip. it might be the best tone and playing i’ve heard from this kid yet!
he’s unlocking new levels…great mix too:

I had the zoom 1010, I thought it was amazing, lol....

I can relate to your Savage experience. awesome amp. But that was the one area it didnt cover, the greased out 80s style.

After my stint with the 2020, I got the 3000, the one with the headset to do sort of talkbox/robot voice stuff, which also was improved in terms of patch switching latency.

But I traded that one in for a Boss GT-3 and used that for quite a few years. In terms of FX control, parameters, etc. it was quite ahead of its time.

Awesome!
We had our first snow for Christmas here :giggle:
Happy New Year to you & your dear ones too! May 2026 be a fun one.

any of you rack cats using Eventide H3-9k on the regular? if so:

1) What are your uniquely Eventide go-to presets you can’t live without? I.E. Some say the micropitch detunes in it is the best while others prefer the yamaha spx texture.

2) Does anyone prefer the older H3000 series sounds over the newer stuff?

3) Any old school long time H3-9k users dump the rack units for the H90 pedal?
