spend it if you got it :) Why not? You couild always have MLB cap like hte NHL has and have parity but that sucks imho. If you have a successful orginization and an owner willing to spend, let em spend....

Just because you have a high payroll doesnt always mean you'll win. You can't buy chemistry and championships.

That was a great AB for Damon in the 9th last night...heads up base running too. AJ vs Cliff should be a good matchup tonight

Yeah, I mean the Yankees have only spent roughly $1.3 BILLION dollars in payroll since their last World Series win.

That's about $34.8 million per playoff victory.

And your point is??? The fans keep buying the tickets at record breaking paces and the memorabilia sells like hot cakes. It's not like they're spending money that they don't have...

Just adding perspective, that's all. Also, the Yankees were 8th in home attendance % this year.

Oh stop. They were 2nd with an average attendance of 45,918. The only reason why their attendance came down is because the new stadium is smaller, and the seats behind home plate were priced at $2,000 a seat early in the year. They cut the prices mid season. If Yankee stadium held 70,000 i bet they would still sellout most games.

Parity sucks? So you don't want every team to have the same chance of winning?

Yes indeed.

Yanks are putting a weak lineup out there tonight. No Posada because Molina catches Burnett, no Matsui. gardner in for Melkey, and Cano can't hit the side of a mountain right now. I can see Lee pitching a great game. At least i feel good about games 6 and 7 if it goes that far.

Like i said, I'm not counting out the Phillies until it's a done deal.

well I do but the problem with caps and cost certainties is you have weaker teams get a check from the successful teams (Yankees/Red Wings). Owners who shouldnt be in sports business getting rewarded and that aint right. Put a better product on the field/court/ice and you will have success, to do that you cannot be held back from a cap which basically to dilutes talent around the leagues...

I'd rather see two great teams player each other in a final than two average teams...

Burnett can be hit or miss. One day he gives up 4 dingers, then next it's a shutout with 10 Ks.

Well...he's a big miss tonight. Looks like we're going back to NY

THE TIDE HAS TURNED!

Phillies in 7!

Nothing has turned. Yanks in 6. They almost came back and won last night. Can't complain about 2 outta 3 in Philly. This time, Pedro gets bombed. And no CLiff Lee for a potential game 7.

gotta love when all of the Yankee haters start bringing up the payroll. It's not the Yankee's fault that they:

a) are located in the best market in the world
b) have owners that will spend money to put a good product on the field
c) have the best sports brand name out of any of the major sports

Which is why I would like to see a sallary cap on teams or something along those lines to level the playing field. That's not going to happen anytime soon though.

I don't blame the Yankees for spending what they do and putting the best team they can on the field. They do alot better job than the Cubs, which spend alot too. But alot of Yankee fans and the heavy media bias gets old. Every year its the same story lines about the yankees, if they are winning, who will stop them. If they are losing, what its going to take to get them back on track. I don't see those story lines with the Marlins for example.

I predict the Yankess will win game 6, oh well there is always next year.

Would be great if Pedro could go out and get a win at Yankee Stadium, but even if he does, it'll be tough for them to win 3 games in a row. Stranger things have happened though. Didn't the Yankees lose 3 games in a row to Boston in 2004 when they were up 3-1 in the ALCS?

EDIT: Actually, they were up 3-0 on Boston weren't they? Then they lost 4 in a row.

I was laughing so hard at the end of game 7 of that series. Most hilarious thing ever

Looks like the Yanks are going to take this one, barring a miracle.

6 outs to go to baseball NIRVANA. Phillies are tough, it's not over till it's over. Matsui has a game for the ages tonight.

Ryan Howard was completely taken out of this series. One of the worst postseason performances in recent history.

Congrats to the 2009 Payroll Bowl Champs, the NY Yankees. Tim McCarver is terrible.

Maybe because he faced lefties CC and Pettitte.

Matsui MVP. I would have given it to Mo. Now, do you guys realize how good Jeter is yet? All he does is hit .400 in the postseason.
