Hey guys...help me understand if I am doing something wrong or if maybe I have a bad unit.

I have a collection of low-wattage tube amps. Soldano, Mesa/Boogie, Friedman, Marshall, etc...These amps are all 25 watts or below.

Running the guitar (Ive tried 3-4 of them) right into the head (Ive tried 3-4 of them) right into the loadbox input of Torpedo Reload and then into the soundcard (UA Apollo Twin, for reference).

Any type of distorted tone is accompanied by a harsh buzziness that overpowers the guitar sound.

Clean sounds are sometimes ok but frequently clip unless the output volume of the amp is set at 3 or less. Again, keep in mind, these amps are 25 watts or less.

The 15db pad helps, but it dramatically reduces the output of the unit, which means I have to turn up input gain on the soundcard and bring the overall noise floor up quite a bit.

Am I doing something wrong?

The signal you have is a raw output of the amp brought down to a level that your DAW can handle. At this point, you need to apply some speaker emulation in order to get a sound that resembles a recorded amplifier. Luckily, your Reload includes a 24 cabinet licence for the Two notes Wall of Sound plug in. You can of course use any other speaker emulator but the WOSIII is state of the art and you can augment the options by adding static IR's or making in app purchases from the Two notes boutique.

I'm sure that the Reload licence cabs will be more that enough for you to have everything you need to get great results. Your manual contains the licence code and download and installation instructions.

The plugin helps but there is still more clipping than I'd like. Thoughts?

Hi Dan would it be possible that you post some audio clips? That could help us identify the kind of issue you're experiencing.

I "think" I've got the problem solved, but I will certainly post some clips. I travel for work during the week but will record a few things this weekend. After some time playing with it, I have experienced a dramatic improvement in sound quality. Still, I'd love to get input on if I could be doing better. Thanks!
