Compressor Pedals

Used to have a Keeley, sounded good but had a bit of hiss to it. Now I have the Empress MKII.

Might be one of my least used pedals, but I drop the input to near zero to emulate turning the volume knob on my guitar down then use it to get the cleans a little spanky (and mostly with my tele than anything else).

Funk only time I’d use one . Other than that I never touch mine

Well, I can't say I am a Neo Soul Fucker (NSF) but I do have a compressor on my board - the Wampler Ego Compressor. Best compressor I have ever owned.

I had a Keeley comp plus and didn't think the noise floor was acceptable. Seems like a pedal that is mostly sold to guys who don't really know what they are doing, who think it's great but it isn't. Is the Empress quiet and transparent?

Probably depends what you're doing with it and which amp. I wouldn't call it terrible but it was noticeable.

Empress is definitely quiet and relatively transparent, at least both better than the Keeley. It's got way more knobs so requires more tweaking/understanding of how compression works (which I didn't know until I had to Google stuff like ratios).

Thanks Ners. Makes more sense to me to have actual attack/release controls it was just that at the time I didn't have $300 for a compressor. Whether it'd really benefit me is something I can't determine until I have one in my hands but the Keeley only made it about two gigs before I just left it shut off.

I always end up turning the effect of the compressor down to the point I just have it there for the sake of it, then I take it off the board, then I think I need one again and start the whole process over.

I have the Origin effects Cali76 compact deluxe, but to be honest... i don't really know what I am doing with it, but when I was putting that board together I figured what the hell...and put it on there.

Those are really nice but man they are cost prohibitive. I've looked at the warm audio Pedal 76 comp but the box is huge and it's priced in the same range as the Empress. I'd rather have a Canadian pedal than a Chinese one but truthfully warm audio gear is pretty nice stuff.
