I own a MK II and it's great. I played both diezels when I had my mesa stiletto and maxon od808 rig. I took the mesa with me to compare it to the diezels. I plugged the stiletto into the diezel 412 loaded with vintage 30, which I usually don't care for but my mesa DESTROYED the diezels. My buddy that was with me and I had a serious epiphany and all the dudes in the music store where shocked! Honestly, so was I, at how much difference the cabinet made! That was the day when tone got really tricky for me because I realized it isn't just the amp, or the cab or the speakers but EVERYTHING! I should have just bought a diezel cab and kept the stiletto but I went on to own and try another hundred or so amps and finally, after listening to Greg Howes Sound Proof album, bought a Cornford, new without playing it first. I have had that amp longer than almost any other amp I have owned and I still love the tone ( I do miss my Splawn quick rod though ). I wish I had the MK50 only because of the smaller foot switch. I just don't use a clean channel as the guitar volume works just fine for me and I don't use any effects with the amp as the tone is complete, at least, for me. The size of the MK50 II foot switch is a bit big. A smaller foot switch would be very cool. Less buttons to accidentally tap! I've been thinking of a MK50 or a SLO 100 if for no other reason than to shrink my foot print on stage.

Um, your Stiletto destroyed the Diezels? Different strokes for different folks but...REALLY?! Every Stiletto I have played sounded terrible.

Smaller footswitch? Build your own or if you need help- go on the forum, over there, a couple of the guys built these little 3 button boxes for their MK50 II's. You may want to try that and just wire it the way you want. Or shoot a mouse with an elephant gun-get a small midi switcher and get a RJM rg-16 and tell that thing to do what you want. May save you a couple inches on your board.  I'm not laughing at you either, cause that's what I did. :aww:   Or if like you say, you use your volume control-what's the issue, don't hook it up. It'll save a lot of space then.

MK50 sounds awesome. This clip just sounds great in every way.

Had a couple of tweaks done to mine, and love it even more :D

Great amps, for sure

Ive never really heard much bad press at all about cornfords and I enjoyed playing one at NAMM some years ago but it wasnt enough for me to be interested,,

If you want a souped up Marshall type amp Charles, at the risk of sounding silly, get a Marshall!!! If you have a Marshall, talk to Dan Gower ( MrDan666) hes in your neck of the woods. Hes a phenomenal player who can also mod your Marshall to make it SCREAM. Hes a good dude, you guys should hook up..

Hi Kage,

Yeah - in the end I got a Bogner 20th XTC (which is off the hook phenomenal). But should I offload another amp then my next purchase would definitely be an early-mid 80s JCM 800 2203/2204 which I'd get Dan to mod. Love Cornfords though...just not enough to buy one over a Bogner!

I *do* have a TSL 60 but I CHALLENGE Dan to make that POS amp sound good...impossible!

I understand mate, thats where the whole personal preference thing comes in. I have never been able to gel with a Bogner and Ive played many. Bob Savage has this paisley super Shiva that was pretty cool and a friend in Greece had an XTC classic that I liked but overall, Bogners and I just dont see eye to eye, regardless of how many great recording of them that I have heard..

The JVM 210 is the end of the road for me, does everything that I need it to do very well. Classic and Vintage Marshall goodness combined with a host of great useable modern features that Ive always wanted. My GAS stopped with that amp..

Do tell....

Had some of the grittiness removed, and tightened the bass response a bit. It works REALLY well for me :D

Yeah, I didn't care much for the stiletto at all until I put the Maxon 808 in front but it blew us all away (and this was at a diezel dealer). I was truly amazed. A vintage 30 diezel cab.... Stunning, especially since I don't usually like vintage 30's. Still the cornford won my heart. I've used it for metal and now a fusion band. It can totally cope with anything in between. I mean if Kerry King uses a Marshall, then this thing (cornford MK50II) can truly do anything  If anyone can direct me to the place to make my own foot switch I would appreciate it. I want to make a 2 button for the overdrive and 2nd master volume and eliminate the other 10 inches of MK50 II foot switch. Also, where can I find an empty 2 button foot switch and the cable to do this? I solder ok but I've never made any kind of pedal or foot switch before. I'm thinking of trading my MK50 II for a MK50. I really don't want too but the 2 button switch is pretty important to me. Thank All!

Cornford are beautiful amps. Not sure I'm comfortable weighing them against a VH4 as, well, kinda 2 different animals in my opinion. But good luck - this would be a cool route to explore regardless.

In the end I went for a modded Marshall. Dan is working on it now (early 80s JCM800) - cannot wait!

Never played a Cornford and have no interest in them... just wanted to say don't sell the VH-4... if you have other amps you like less and can do some saving... go that route...
