So it's come to this.. Not only is there no difference between pop and country these days, but there's literally no difference.. in any of it. At all. The whole genre has gone full on Nickelback syndrome and nobody sounds more like everyone else than anyone else. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Thank God for Brad Paisley and Eric Church.

Brad Paisley and Eric Church are part of the big industry machine too, which =lame imo.

Many involved with this can play. In fact most of the studio regulars are great players, but the result is still the same. A friend of mine is the house engineer of one of the big label studios here in nashville, and works with them all the time. If you just wanna make a quick buck, that's great, but it's very different here than what most are used to. You have 1 small group of people who write most of what's heard on mainstream country, then another small group of musicians who cut all the tracks, for most of the releases. It just seems the artist, in most cases is too far removed from the creative process for the end result to be anything I would want to hear. Too contrived imo. ymmv.

Paisley is the one one left that can actually play an instrument. Hank III as well.

The rest of them just fucking stand there and pretend to play instruments while the real musicians are in the back. All it is, is American Idol bullshit music with a twang. The fucks that have ZERO HOBBIES, ZERO TALENT, ZERO INTERESTS, feed the machine by watching them dumb fucking shows, American Idol, The Voice and all the rest of the same fucking boring "vote em off" format. Fucking Morons. I don't know how someone can sit there week after week watching those shows. Boggles my mind.

My band sucks. Nobody likes us, but you know what? When we do play out, we play our God Damn instruments.

Here's my one and only kuntry song

Don't forget this guy in the "can play" list..

Country is really the last genre still making money. That's because country fans are the last of the people still buying music.

I'd probably throw these guys in as well..

Them cats is up there (almost) in the ranks of Skynyrd IMO. I've not heard of them till a few weeks ago.

the only gripe I have is the fucking keyboard. Don't like keyboards in rock music. I know, I'm an idiot.

This shit is killer though

If you get the chance, go see them live. They are just a killer live band.

I really liked that. Thanks, guys!

Unfortunately, if you want "Real" modern country, (not that pop music with a country accent) try the Americana genre. Sturgil Simpson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Steve Earle, Bill Kirchen, Junior Brown, some Jamie Johnson, and Waylons boy Shooter Jennings is doing big things. And of course Hank 3. None of these acts you will hear on fm radio, except for some Jamie Johnson.

Yeah, I never felt Jamey could carry a tune in a bucket, but at least he's honest as they come and I can definitely respect that.

I'll be sure to dig into the others you mentioned, too. Thanks!

Other than the singing drummer for The Band, I only knew this guy as the crazy gun nut in the movie "Shooter". Some of his songs can make this big boy break down.

Steve Earle is another that is always in constant rotation in my ear lobes.
